The simultaneous ascending auction has proved to be a successful method of auctioning many related items.http://www.cramton.umd.edu/papers2000-2004/cramton-simultaneous-ascending-auction.pdf. Although package bids are not allowed, the auction format does handle mild complementarities well. This chapter examines one of the most successful methods for auctioning many related items—the simultaneous ascending auction. Here I describe the method and its extensions, provide evidence of its success, and suggest what we can learn from the years of experience conducting simultaneous ascending auctions. Nonetheless, I view the simultaneous ascending auction, not as a historical curiosity to be supplanted by more powerful combinatorial methods, but as an essential method any auction designer should have in his toolkit. This is not to say that true combinatorial auctions—those that allow package bids—are not also important. The simultaneous ascending auction is a natural generalization of the English auction when selling many goods. Auctions have become the preferred method of assigning spectrum and most have been simultaneous ascending auctions. With sequential auctions, bidders must guess what prices will be in future auctions when determining bids in the current auction. In auctions with multiple stages (later stages have higher activity requirements), the auction ends when no new bids are submitted in the final stage. Specifically, view the ascending auction as a two-button auction where there is a price clock that starting from price 0 increases continuously to 100. The inefficiencies of demand reduction can be eliminated with a Vickrey auction or more practically with an ascending proxy auction

Most items that are up for bid by subjects of Internet auction fraud fall into six major categories. Money orders or personal checks were listed as method of payment by 80% of the victims that reported Internet auction fraud. A typical profile of a subject of Internet auction fraud is an individual, as opposed to a business. Online auctions have transpired into a very lucrative business. Millions of online auction items are up for bid daily and include items from all around the world. This phenomenon keeps growing daily as more buyers and sellers flock to these online auction houses. The purpose of this study is to inform the reader about what Internet auction fraud involves, the extent of Internet auction fraud, what a typical profile of a subject and victim of Internet auction fraud is, and what questions the reader should answer before bidding. An Internet auction is defined as items that are offered for sale on an Internet auction house with the process of bidding against others to receive the item.
