Bluetooth is a technology for wire-less personal area networks (WPANs) that has been widely publicized recent-ly, but it is only one of a number of op-tions for wireless data communication. This article puts Bluetooth into context and describes wireless data communi-cations in relation to audio systems. They typically use coding techniques to make the BLUETOOTH data signal look like noise or very short-term impulsive interference to a narrow-band receiver in the radio fre-quency (RF) domain, as shown in Fig. 2. Bluetooth operates in the 2.4-GHz band at data rates up to 1 Mbit/s over distances of up to 10 m or 100 m de-pending on the implementation. A rel-atively simple binary FM modulation method is used because Bluetooth has to be implementable in basic devices. In addition to the Bluetooth Core Specification that describes the princi-ples of communication, the Bluetooth SIG (special interest group) publishes a number of profile documents that de-scribe specific

Small introduction to Bluetooth Scanner installation

This document will introduce to you what you need to install to be able to run a Baracoda Bluetooth Scanner. Its purposes is to clear what the first steps are. All the software and detailled documentations are available on www.baracoda.com (download area). We strongly advise you to read through the software and hardware documentation before using them. This one is used when you do not have a Bluetooth Widcomm or Microsoft stack. If you want to use the scanners with a PC or a PDA, these devices need to be Bluetooth, ie to have a bluetooth receiver. You have to install a Bluetooth adapter: please consider the following steps. 1. Install the Bluetooth driver of the adapter without the adapter plugged into your terminal 2. You may also consider using our completely Plug&Scan solution (no software needed): the Baracoda RS232 Bluetooth adaptor and/or the USB Plug and Scan (all the Bluetooth drivers and the Baracoda software are already embedded in these devices).

Device Discovery in Bluetooth

In this paper we propose a technique that integrates existing IrDA technology with Bluetooth technology to improve the connection-establishment time of Bluetooth devices. We accomplish this improvement by first establishing an IrDA connection between two devices equipped with both Bluetooth and IrDA capabilities and then exchanging Bluetooth device discovery information via the established IrDA connection. Our research shows that IrDA-assisted Bluetooth connection establishment is up to four times faster than the normal Bluetooth connection establishment procedure. This paper details research into the ways in which IrDA and Bluetooth can be combined to improve Bluetooth's connection establishment time. After the Bluetooth connection information is retrieved, the IrDA link can be disconnected and the Bluetooth connection established. Now, if both devices used the IrDA-assisted Bluetooth connection method, Grandma would be able to hold her device in position for the 1 to 1.5

Bluetooth Power Amplifier: System Performance Review

Performance is presented for the following areas: Transmit output spectrum, 1dB compression point, S-parameters, noise figure, harmonic output content, gain and supply current. Bluetooth uses GFSK modulation between 2.402GHz and 2.48GHz. Bluetooth communication is a TDD (time-division duplex) system that operates in the ISM band, between 2.402GHz and 2.48GHz. The Bluetooth system uses a digital-frequency-modulation method known as 0.5BT GFSK (Gaussian frequency-shift keying). There are four digitally controlled output-power levels, making the PA compliant with Bluetooth Class-1 and Class-2 power. Required PA Characterization for Bluetooth Transmit Output Spectrum: Measurements for the transmit output spectrum analyze the power levels in the frequency domain to ensure that, under given conditions, the PA will meet the FCC 20dB bandwidth requirements (FCC 15.247) and the Bluetooth transmit spectrum-mask requirements (see Table 1 for details). This new spectral growth must be

Pioneer Bluetooth Mobile phone compatibility with DEH-P70BT

This list gives an example of Bluetooth mobile phones on the market. If your Bluetooth phone is not on the list, try it out in practice or check our web-site www.pioneer-eur.com, for the most recent information . The Bluetooth word mark and logos are owned by the Bluetooth SIG, Inc. and any use of such marks by Pioneer is under license. It is compatible with profiles such as Hand Free Profile, Head Set Profile and Object Push Profile. However the functionality may be limited due to some phones' dedicated interfacing specifications, even with phones of which the actual Bluetooth specifications and used profiles apply to DEH-P70BT specifications. Please check the compatibility list or try your phone at the local dealer in case it is not mentioned in the list. In that case, please switch the source manually. * Some cell phones transpose the contact names when sent through Bluetooth : the first and last name will be shown in a reverse way in the DEH-P70BT

Novel Approach Yields 100mW Bluetooth Amplifier

This article provides Bluetooth history from 1994 to present as well as Ericsson's role in the system evolution. Article also describes using Bluetooth for long-range systems with 100mW output power. This integrated design meets its goals for performance and cost in support of class-1 long-range Bluetooth transmissions. Bluetooth applications in the high-power 100m range require an amplifier capable of 100mW of output power at 2.4GHz. In contrast to traditional design techniques, a power amplifier (PA) developed by Maxim for long-range Bluetooth applications features integrated power control, comes in an ultra-small size at low cost, and requires a minimum number of external circuit elements. The SIG dubbed the short-range wireless connectivity solution "Bluetooth" after the tenth-century king who united Denmark. Bluetooth radio system diagram The class-1 transmit-power specification is detailed in the radio section of the 1.0 version of the Bluetooth specification.2 The

Such a solution can be realized quickly, can leverage a wide variety of low cost Bluetooth components, and can be optimized to impose a minimal impact on the host system implementation and performance. Bluetooth is one of the fastest growing wireless technologies in the market. With over 2000 companies involved in the Bluetooth Special Interest Group it is now emerging in countless devices with shipments expected to approach 1 billion units per year by 2005. The Bluetooth specification defines a uniform structure for devices to communicate with minimal user intervention. Figure 1 illustrates the typical interconnection between a Host system and a Bluetooth module. In order support maximum system level performance, Bluetooth ASSPs include UARTs that are capable of supporting transfer rates of up to 1.5 Mbps. Standard port interface ASSPs are not tailored for Bluetooth protocol handling, and as a result they may consume significant processing resources when operating
