Abstract-- The Bluetooth standard specifies the formation of Piconets but only alludes to the possibility of joining several of these Piconets to form a Scatternet. In an attempt to formalize this Scatternet formation process, several schemes have been suggested. This also restricts these schemes' ability to efficiently cope with fully dynamic topology changes due to nodes joining/leaving. To accommodate a greater number of active devices, the Bluetooth standard alludes to the possibility of joining several Piconets to form a larger network called a Scatternet. Since Bluetooth devices are particularly power constrained, BTSpin tries to eliminate the need to form temporary Piconets at any point in an effort to conserve energy. To the best of our knowledge, no other solution has been proposed so far that is as capable as BTSpin in forming efficient multi-hop Scatternets for Bluetooth devices. Further, depending on our connect rules, they determine their final roles and may do a
We recognize that using an existing built-in Bluetooth device is preferable to having to attach a second Bluetooth device to communicate with InterWrite devices. InterWrite Bluetooth devices ship with a TDK Bluetooth device and TDK Bluetooth software. GTCO Calcomp does not test with Bluetooth software from other manufacturers, but in many cases, InterWrite will work well with these third-party Bluetooth software packages. Microsoft provides Bluetooth software that runs only on Windows XP, and Widcomm provides Bluetooth software that runs on all current versions of Microsoft Windows. The Widcomm Bluetooth software provides a great deal of functionality not included in the Microsoft Bluetooth software. Each manufacturer has Bluetooth software that works only with their device, even though the software is nearly identical to the other manufacturers' Bluetooth software. This is enforced by Widcomm by means of a licensing scheme that, for example, prevents the TDK Bluetooth

PicoBlue Specification v1.9.1

The PicoBlue features highly secure Bluetooth authentication and encryption and it leads the industry in performance, range and overall enterprise functionality. Pico Communications has established a reputation for pushing the boundaries of wireless networking by delivering enterprise-class wireless personal and local area networking (PAN and LAN) for handhelds via BluetoothT wireless technology. PicoBlue acts as wireless gateway that allows Bluetooth computing devices to make a secure wireless connection to corporate networks and the Internet from as far away as 800 feet and at speeds up to 723 kbps. Once installed, PicoBlue allows seven users to share access to the network at one time using the Bluetooth LAN Access Profile (LAP) or Dial-up Networking Profile (DUN). PicoBlue has been designed with security in mind, supporting the full Bluetooth authentication and encryption suite as well as such enterprise requirements as VPN pass-through capability and centralized RADIUS

Bluetooth is coming, but there are still a few bumps in the road BLUETOOTH is coming, but there are still a few bumps in the road If somehow all the people carrying wireless devices could reliably ex-change information through a network simply by being in close enough proximity, then the promise of wireless might really come true. That's quite a big "what if," but it's the promise of the personal-area-network (PAN) standard Bluetooth claims to fulfill. And despite veiled threats from competitive standards, it looks as if Bluetooth is finally crossing from vaporware into reality. Built for short-range links between wireless devices such as PDAs, cell phones and, to some extent, laptop computers within 10 meters of each other, Bluetooth has been under development since 1998. In addition, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has grown as vendors become more serious about the technology. In fact, by 2005, an estimated 1.4 billion Bluetooth-enabled devices will be in use,

This paper presents self organization, routing and handover aspects of a newly developed IP-based Bluetooth multi-hop network to be used for inhouse communication. Dedicated devices equipped with two Bluetooth modules are used as forwarding nodes and serve as a stationary infrastructure for mobile end devices. Available technologies for ad hoc networking are the widespread IEEE 802.11 [5] and the emerging Bluetooth [4] technology. In contrast to IEEE 802.11, Bluetooth was especially designed and developed for ad hoc networking only. Therefore Bluetooth can be seen as one step towards pervasive computing. Bluetooth's strong disadvantage, though, is the relatively small gross data rate of 1 Mbit/s per piconet. 2. describes the state of the art in multi-hop networking with Bluetooth which includes network formation, routing and transmitting IP data over Bluetooth. 3. a newly developed IP-based Bluetooth multi-hop network for inhouse communication is presented.   Abstract-- To utilize Bluetooth as a layer 2 multi-hop subnet for global IP network, there are two missing protocols in current Bluetooth stack: network formation and routing. In this paper, we propose our network formation and routing protocols optimized for such Bluetooth subnset usage scenarios to fill this gap. In this paper, we first present some observations on performance degradations of Bluetooth PAN due to network topologies and topology change when radio independant protocols are implemented. By using proposed method, scatternet can be formed flexibly with star, mesh, or linked line based on several parameters like number of maximum piconets that a gateway Bluetooth device can participate, and whether loops are needed in the resulting scatternet to achieve better network performance. LM is derived from estimation of nodes' link bandwidth, which reflects the different roles of nodes in Bluetooth scatternet. We assume that such Bluetooth scatternet will be parts

The DSM-920BT is Bluetooth compliant to ensure seamless operation and performance. Transfer your digital music wirelessly at up to 723kbps for great audio quality and sound. Enable Bluetooth on your speakers with the DSM-100BT. Bluetooth wireless technology allows you to place your DSM-100BT at up to 30 meters away from your PC. This gives you the flexibility to stream music from your PC to your speakers. The DSM-920BT Kit is designed so that both the DSM-100BT and the DSM-120BT will connect auto-matically. There is no software to run or drivers to worry about. Once connected, both Bluetooth adapters will automatically initiate the pairing process, link with each other, and establish a Bluetooth connection for a seamless audio listening experience. The DSM-920BT connects quickly and simply to your Windows-based PC through a mini USB connection.

Bluetooth Piconets A piconet is a collection of Bluetooth devices connected in an ad-hoc fashion. Each piconet share an unique frequency hopping pattern determined by the master's Bluetooth Device Address (48bits) and Clock. Bluetooth Piconets (cont) Bluetooth Packet Routing Each Bluetooth Device has an unique UDP port which represents the MacAddr and the communication channel to send and receive the data. So the CPU and I/O performance is going to decrease with the increase of Bluetooth devices.
