Bluetooth wireless technology is a specification for a small-form factor, low cost radio solution that provides links between mobile computers, mobile phones, other portable handheld devices, and connectivity to the Internet. The Dell TrueMobileT 300 Bluetooth module is offered as an integrated option on all Latitude D-Family notebooks and select Inspiron notebooks. With this technology, customers can connect to compatible Bluetooth-enabled devices such as cell phones, printers, keyboards, mice and PDAs without having to use physical cables. When connected to a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone, the portable computer can use the cell phone as a modem to connect to the Internet. The Bluetooth link can be used to exchange or synchronize data between the portable computer and the cell phone or PDA. A user can print from the portable computer to a local Bluetooth-enabled printer without having to use cable or can send electronic business cards or files

80211_and_Bluetooth_Industrial

Recently there have been a lot of discussions about Bluetooth versus 802.11b. The question is not Bluetooth or 802.11 but more Bluetooth and 802.11. This paper will discuss the issue IEEE 802.11 and Bluetooth in an Industrial Environment in some more detail. Bluetooth has a major focus as a technology to be built into all kinds of small devices. In this area 802.11 is superior to Bluetooth, supporting features like handover between access points and acting as a transparent wireless network expanding the wired network for example an Ethernet network. The 802.11 usage scenario is very different from the usage scenarios described for Bluetooth. There is a wireless networking scenario defined in Bluetooth that somewhat "competes" with the 802.11 scenario. The Bluetooth networking scenario will be extended and enhanced in future new versions of the Bluetooth standard, but at the same time 802.11 technologies will move further and support higher transmission rates.   Companies must pass strict interoperability and qualification testing before they are permitted to use the Bluetooth logo and claim Bluetooth compliance [10]. The Service Discovery Application Profile defines the features and procedures for an application in a Bluetooth device to discover services registered in other Bluetooth devices and retrieve any desired available information pertinent to these services. The key challenge and primary reason for the delay in Bluetooth adoption has been getting Bluetooth-enabled products to work in interoperability tests with other products. One version does use frequency hopping, but because Bluetooth hops 600 times as fast, it is anticipated that when these two collide, Bluetooth will have quickly recovered and continued hopping along, long before 802.11b even detects that there has been a collision. In addition to the usual ink cartridge, the Anoto pen contains image processing and Bluetooth radio circuitry designed

A 0.18/spl mu/m CMOS bluetooth frequency synthesizer for integration with a bluetooth soc reference platf -

Bluetooth is a communications standard targeting short-range wireless communications with data rates of 1Mb/s at 10m distance. To encourage Canadian universities to pursue this commercially promising standard the Canadian Microelectronics Corporation is providing the intellectual property for a Bluetooth SOC Reference Platform. A brief Bluetooth specification translation process to derive the frequency synthesizer sys-tem specifications is presented. A pilot PCB Bluetooth fre-quency synthesizer is presented together with specific mea-surements made at NEWT, TR Labs ' new test and measure-ment facility. Finally, a fully integrated Bluetooth frequency synthesizer implemented in a CMOS 0.18 The Bluetooth standard was designed to achieve cost-effective wireless communications providing a data rate of 1Mb/s at 10m distance. Destined to be primarily a flexible cable replacement, growth in the Bluetooth arena has re-sulted in over 10 million integrated circuit units shipped

Introduction to Bluetooth Technology

What is Bluetooth? It is a specification that attempts to provide a standard method of wireless communication between various personal devices Devices with ranging complexity can utilize Bluetooth technology: from cellular telephones to laptop computers Has a complete software framework and its own protocol stack. Specifications are driven by a Consortium that was founded in 1998 by Ericsson Microelectronics, Nokia, IBM, Toshiba and Intel. Maximum 7 active nodes or 255 parked. Define how devices provide different services in the Bluetooth environment There are currently 13 profiles defined by Bluetooth V 1.1 - Custom Application Services can be developed but there is no mechanism by which they can be adopted, except the through the Bluetooth SIG. How does an application present devices and make connections in a Bluetooth environment? WLAN Profile - IP over Bluetooth. "The future of Bluetooth looks bright because it meets the basic need of connectivity in close proximity."

Bluetooth Technology for the Field Surveyor

Trimble`s 5800 RTK Rover, ACU Controller, and BlueCapT module for the TSCeT Controller offer surveyors the world`s first integrated GPS receiver, antenna, UHF radio, battery, and Bluetooth wireless technology, creating pole configurations that are entirely cable free. This paper explains Bluetooth technology and outlines its significant benefits for surveyors when integrated in Trimble products. What is Bluetooth? Bluetooth wireless technology is an international specification for a compact, low-cost radio solution that links portable devices and connects to the Internet. Bluetooth is more than just a radio solution: Bluetooth devices are able to find each other and establish communication without user intervention. As a result, Bluetooth technology is very easy to use-after the first configuration, Bluetooth connections are automatic. The ISM Frequency Band Devices using the ISM frequency band must usually meet certain standards, and in order to use the Bluetooth name and
