  This course introduces the JSR 82 Java APIs for Bluetooth, an optional J2ME package defined by the Java Community Process that provides a standard API for Bluetooth connectivity. It starts by introducing the Bluetooth technology, followed by the Java APIs for Bluetooth, and how to use them.   Among the various wireless technologies available to-day, Bluetooth stands out as the most promising for use in low-power sensor networks. This is especially true for large networks of sensors with low data rates, where Blue-tooth's low power Hold, Sniff, and Park modes could be utilized during periods of low activity to reduce power con-sumption. We in-troduce a novel polling algorithm called Adaptive Share Polling (ASP) that is designed to perform well when the network consists of sources sending short data packets at constant rate that may fluctuate over time. In ASP, the scheduler at the master implicitly learns the share of the bandwidth that needs to be allocated to each of the slaves in order to meet the latency and/or power requirements of the application. Interference from UWB to Bluetooth & GSM DCS 1800RTCG Project Report 639

  This report details the measurements made for RA2/TSU concerning the effects of UWB interference to Bluetooth and GSM DCS 1800. The C/I values being 18 to 19 dB for Bluetooth wanted signals and ~8dB for GSM at 1800 MHz. The Bluetooth equipment was two evaluation kits (to create a transmit and receive link) designed for this system and the GSM tests were performed with a sample mobile phone of modern design. It does, however, use a wide frequency spectrum that covers many other users including Bluetooth and GSM cell phones. As part of the investigation into UWB possible interference into other services for CEPT SE24, this report details the work done to examine the compatibility of UWB signals with Bluetooth and GSM DCS 1800 signals. Three Bluetooth tests were performed :- File transfer with a failure of 10% increase in transfer time for a large (1 Mbyte) file.
