Standard Class requires that the dog, under the direction of the handler, perform all of the agility obstacles in the order and time limit set by the judge.http://www.dogpatch.org/agility/handout.pdf. In the first part, the handler must maneuver the dog among the obstacles in any order that he/she chooses to execute them. The dog earns points for each obstacle performed correctly. After the whistle blows, the dog can earn bonus points by working independently away from the handler through a series of obstacles, while the handler stands behind a designated line. Pairs Relay consists of a standard course with one dog and handler doing a portion of the course, followed by a baton exchange to a second handler and dog who run the second part of the course. In the opening sequence, the handler must direct the dog over a red jump, then an obstacle of his choice, a second different red jump, an obstacle of his choice, a still different third red jump and an obstacle of choice, then complete the sequence of obstacles in numbered order. WELCOME TO OUR DOG AGILITY COMPETITION! WHAT IS DOG AGILITY? In brief, it’s a sport in which a dog runs through a timed obstacle course as commanded by the handler. Agility training strengthens the bond between dog and handler, and provides fun and exercise for both. WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU AS A SPECTATOR: Before you reach out to pet a dog, always ask the owner/handler FIRST. It is against the rules for spectators to assist or coach the handler/dog team by, for example, yelling out the correct obstacle order from the sidelines. It is also not appropriate to shout the dog's name, since this would distract the dog from the handler's commands. ...

Fitting the Collar to Your Dog The collar should be fitted so that the stainless steel contact points press firmly against the dog s skin (see diagram 1).http://www.dogtra.com/s_manual/2004_ef_training.pdf. A loose fit can allow the collar to move around on the dog s neck and may cause irritation to the skin. Allow the dog to get used to the collar for some time before beginning training. IMPORTANT! DO NOT leave the collar receiver on the dog for more than 8 hours a day. Leaving the collar/receiver on the dog for extended periods of time can cause skin irritation around the neck or at the site where the contact points make contact with the skin. Each dog has a unique temperament and will learn differently. Through repetition the dog will learn the pager/vibration is the warning before the stimulation and that the dog is too close to the e-fence boundary. If using the e-fence for more than one dog, train each dog separately. If the dog attempts to run through the flags towards the distraction, wait for your dog to respond to the stimulation and quickly reel him back to you by pulling on the rope, into the safe area of the yard (see diagram 7). If your dog attempts to chase through the e-fence after the other dog/human, pull firmly on the leash/rope until the dog is back in the safe area of the yard (see diagram 9). IMPORTANT - Increase the stimulation (1) level at a time, until you find a level that will discourage the dog from running through the e-fence, after the dog or human distraction. When the dog refuses to run through the flags (10) consecutive times, after the dog or human distraction in various locations of the yard, proceed to the next step. IMPORTANT - If ...

To successfully improve or tackle this problem, both the owner's and the dog's behavior need to be modified.http://www.deesdogs.com/documents/teachingyourdogtostayhomealone.pdf. What sort of pre-cues do you give the dog that tell it you are getting ready to leave? Putting on your jacket, grabbing your cap, the sound of your car keys and getting your briefcase or purse are all cues to the dog. Repeat until the dog no longer finds this distressing. When you really do leave, ignore the dog for at least 15 minutes before you go. Upon your arrival, greet the dog after you've hung up your jacket and put your things away wait for the dog to be in a calm and realaxed state. Set up training sessions where you separate yourself from the dog. Place a baby gate in a doorway between two rooms with you on one side and the dog on the other. After a few quiet minutes, remove the baby gate without any fanfare and let the dog in the room with you again. If the dog was noisy while you were temporarily separated, you must wait until there is a quiet moment before you let the dog out. You don't want the dog to learn that noisy behavior will be rewarded with your presence. Eventually move out of the dog's sight. What if you could actually make a dog look forward to you leaving! A good dog is a tired dog. To keep the dog's mind busy, leave a treat-filled toy, bone or Buster Cube for the dog.

To spay or neuter this dog within 30 days of adoption at my expense if dog is not already altered. Proof of spaying or neutering will be provided in writing to Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue within ten days of surgery. I will not allow this dog to breed or be bred under any circumstances. 3. A person who wants to list a dog for adoption through SPDR fills out a Listing Agreement and mails that form to SPDR’s post office box.http://www.spdrdogs.org/forms/RevisedListingCoverLetter.pdf. If the owner has a good picture of his dog to include, that should be enclosed as well. The rep for your breed will ask for more information about your dog. She may want to meet your dog. She will make a decision about whether your dog is adoptable through SPDR. If she has no homes waiting, she will let you know when she does get a prospective home for your dog. Or she might discuss taking your dog into a foster home until placement. If she feels your dog is not adoptable through SPDR, she will suggest other options to you, depending on why she feels she could not find a home for your particular dog. Why might my dog not be adoptable through SPDR? In fact, we encourage you to be selective about a new owner for your dog. If you feel an applicant is not right for your dog, notify the breed rep, and she will continue to refer applicants until the right match is found. If the rep decides my dog is adoptable, does SPDR guarantee a placement? Expect to work with your breed rep to find the best possible home for your dog. However, if we are successful in helping place your dog, we request that you make a further donation. Our Board members and breed reps are volunteers, and receive no compensation for the time they spend helping you place your dog.

She stressed one goal: the dog should be so comfortable and confident on each piece of equipment that the dog can perform independently with the handler at a distance, i.http://www.dogtrainingathome.com/articles/part2calhounseminar2002.pdf.e.. Weave poles: The dog’s weave pole performance consists of the following elements: • hand-in-collar: quick learning curve but it requires that the handler have the coordination and physical ability to hold the collar while moving with the dog • guide wires: complement the other methods, gives the dog independence with upright poles early on, but must be faded gradually and carefully to be sure dog understands the task without the wire. Add the third pole when the dog enters two poles consistently when the handler is twenty feet away. To get the correct entry the handler must consider the dog’s path, her own path, and the space between the handler and the dog. Elicia explained how visualizing an infinite line leading into the poles helps to line the dog up for the entry. She said “the younger and more inexperienced the dog is the longer the infinite line needs to be for the dog to find the correct entry. Squaring the dog before the entry helps the dog find the entry and get his rhythm in the poles.” Elicia suggested having the dog do a wrap around the handler (or wheelchair) to improve the dog’s approach to the “invisible line” into the poles. To proof the weave poles, Elicia told us to practice rear crosses while the dog is in the poles. The trays are then placed according to the assessment of each individual dog, so that the dog will jump or stride over them and consistently land with a foot in the yellow contact zone. When the dog is first learning ...

WHAT ARE DOG PARKS? The term “dog park” is generally used where the purpose and design of the park is such as to invite dogs, often in an unleashed environment.http://www.lmnc.org/pdfs/LMCITMemos/OffLeashDogParks.pdf. Some dog parks require membership or charge fees; others are free and open to the public. WHY HAVE DOG PARKS? Off-leash parks offer substantial benefits as a way for dog and owner to get exercise and meet new friends. Dog parks are relatively inexpensive to maintain, have no significant history of claims, and have generally been thought to be successful where they have been created. WHAT ARE THE FEATURES OF A DOG PARK? Dog parks vary in size and amenities, but the following represent some things to consider. Should you enclose your dog park? Rules should be posted at the entrance to the dog park. Cities should require that dogs be licensed and vaccinated to be allowed in the dog park. Children should be supervised while in the dog park because playing dogs can run into children and running children may trigger the dog’s instinct to chase prey. Any special information about the use of the dog park should be displayed at the entrance. Off leash areas, or dog parks, provide great benefits to dog owners. Following are some web sites where you can find dog parks or information about dog parks.

Since 1946, the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind Inc.http://www.guidedog.org/Giving/pdf/dogspon.pdf., a not-for-profit organization, has been providing guide dogs, free of charge, to people who are blind or visually impaired and seek the increased independence, mobility and companionship that a guide dog provides. You or your organization can help to make a real difference in someone’s life by sponsoring a guide dog puppy. What is a dog sponsorship? Dog sponsors are very important to the success of the Guide Dog Foundation’s programs and services. Sponsors make a $6,000 contribution to the Foundation; in return, they are given the opportunity to name a guide dog puppy. Some sponsors choose to name their dog after a loved one; as a result, many guide dogs have “people” names, such as Joe or Sally. All dog sponsors are publicly recognized in the Foundation’s Annual Report. Each dog receives a brass tag for its collar, naming you as the sponsor. After a year, the Puppy Walker family returns the puppy to the Foundation for formal guide dog training. Shortly thereafter, the training staff will evaluate the dog and determine if it is suitable to be a guide. Some dogs go on to become guide dogs; others become breeder dogs, drug detector dogs, or another type of working dog. Not every dog in our program will become a guide dog, and we have no way of predicting which puppies will be suc-cessful in this career. If the dog does not become a guide dog, can I name another puppy? If your dog doesn’t become a guide dog, you are welcome to open a new dog sponsorship and start anew with another puppy.
