Dog Training Pond is in good condition because very little of the shoreline is developed. Phosphorus and nitrogen, key ingredients for algae and plant growth were very low in Dog Training Pond. Good concentrations of dissolved oxygen were found in Dog Training Pond. Good numbers of wildlife, particularly birds, were noted on and around Dog Training Pond. Good habitat exists around Dog Training Pond, with a mix of woods, shrubs and open prairie. Dog Training Pond had very good water quality due, in part, to its origin (gravel pit) and the surrounding land use with no development around the shoreline and minimal impact from non-point sources. The water clarity in the Dog Training Pond during 2001 was excellent, with a seasonal average of 15.1 feet deep. The near surface and deep samples collected from Dog Training Pond had TVS concentrations of 91mg/L and 98 mg/L, respectively. Dog Training Pond ranked #3 out of 103 Lake County lakes based on average total phosphorus concentrations (See Table 2 in Appendix A)2. In calculating the lake’s trophic status in terms of its total phosphorus content, Dog Training Pond had a mesotrophic status. Dog Training Pond has a TN:TP ratio of 36:1, indicating a lake limited by phosphorus3. In 2001, Dog Training Pond exhibited polymictic tendencies, meaning it stratified and turned over several times during the year. The Dog Park Committee is charged with raising funds for fencing and other amenities. The Dog Park project received a $75,000.00 donation from the Cruse Trust in the summer of 2005 and a $60,000.00 additional donation from the same Trust in the summer of 2006. When will the Dog Park open? Why should I take my dog to a Dog Park? Dog Parks are a great place to socialize your dog. This helps your dog to be a better neighbor. A Dog Park offers larger areas for dogs to play that most back yards allow, providing a much larger place for your dog to run off-leash in a safe environment. How do I know if my dog is a good candidate for the Dog Park? Obedience classes and the Canine Good Citizen test are great ways to make sure your dog is ready for play! It is critical your dog can get along with other dogs. Owners will be responsible for their own dog(s) and must be with their dog at all times. While it is your responsibility to watch your dog, there will be two areas at the Dog Park to accommodate everyone. The virus is transmitted from one dog to another via contaminated droplets and faeces. It can also be carried on the dog’s hair and feet, as well as contaminated cages, shoes and other objects. The dog appears to be in severe pain, with a tucked up abdomen. The quarters where an infected dog is or has been kept should be cleaned and thoroughly disinfected. Fleas: These can cause a widespread allergic skin irritation in your dog. The flea is also part of a tapeworm life cycle, so apart from external problems with fleas it is likely your dog will be hosting internal parasites as well. When de-fleaing the dog you will need to de-flea his environment to. They can often be seen on the coat of a light coloured dog or on the edge of the hairline on a dogs belly. When dogs are creating a relationship these items (resources) may cause rivalry. They can be introduced after a couple of weeks. Do give your new dog his/her own confinement area Do keep all dog play and socializing positive and brief. Use a phrase such as “Too Bad” and separate the “bully-dog” to a different area for a few minutes then try again.
