Fish experienced high mortalities in Red Dog Creek during downstream migration because of the high levels of metals and low pH. There are also few subadult-age grayling in the North Fork Red Dog Creek, which is hypothesized to be the result of the poor conditions in Red Dog Creek, in which migrating adults ... Adopting a Career Change Dog The requirements for being a Southeastern guide dog or breeder are stringent and not every dog born to us will succeed.. At present, we average a 60- to 70-percent success rate in placing our dogs as working guides. The remaining 30 to 40 percent must find a new life, which we call a career change. A career change could occur at any stge of training. It could be caused by medical conditions, or problems with a dog’s willingness to work, accept responsibility or be comfortable working in crowds with loud noises. When a guide dog in training must change careers, Southeastern will evaluate the dog for an alternative career. Special placements with law enforcement agencies, retirement homes, or disabled individuals are considered before open adoption. If they are unable or chose not to adopt the dog back into their home then the dog will be released for adoption. With a limited number of dogs available, the waiting list is long and it may be years before we have a career change dog for you to adopt. We are selective as we attempt to find the best possible home for each dog. When Southeastern has a dog we feel would be a good match for your household, we will contact you by phone. When we reach you, we will provide you with the background of the dog, its medical history and reason for not making the program, in order to help you with your decision process. The average adoption fee for a career change dog is $500 and the adopter is responsible for any transportation costs that may occur.
