The K-12 Education Program builds on the accomplishments of the ACLS Elementary and Secondary Schools Teacher and Curriculum Development Project concluded in February of 1996. It would be presumptuous to claim that ACLS can succeed in a complex arena when so many other larger organizations with powerful funders continue to labor with only mixed success. Nonetheless, ACLS has a real leadership role to play in integrating the considerable resources of the K-16 education system to set and support high standards of academic mastery for all students, to prepare expert faculty for the schools, and to offer undergraduates experiences with powerful teachers. In this model, arts and science scholars from the college or university will work with school teachers and professors of education to fashion a preparation focused on both what the pre-service teachers teach and how they teach it. aera http://www.ncate.org/resources/papers/aera.pdf These institutions produce more than two-thirds of the new teachers in the country each year. The new standards place emphasis on systemic assessment of teacher candidate learning, increased collaboration in the development and implementation of clinical experiences, and new ways to approach diversity in teacher education. Most pilot institutions reported that faculty emerged from assessment meetings with a greater understanding of the collective vision of what students should know and be able to do at given points in their programs. Through practice and discussion, faculty members at many of the pilot institutions are working toward greater consensus and higher inter-rater reliability. 05_Education_SPIRAL funding, budget, general fund, reductions, revenues. Despite the fiscal challenge facing California, the K-12 education budget preserves core instructional programs and key reforms and adheres to the Proposition 98 funding requirements. While recognizing that reducing expenditures will be a challenge for the schools, it is important to note that significant improve¬ ments in funding and school performance have been made in recent years and that much of that effort can be preserved and built upon. Due to the decline in General Fund revenues, the 2002-03 Proposition 98 minimum guarantee fell by $2.6 billion since enactment of the 2002 Budget Act. This will help offset the reductions in General Fund while still keeping California's Community Colleges the most accessible and affordable in the nation. The authors argue that design studies, like all scientific work, must comport with guiding scientific principles and provide adequate warrants for their knowledge claims. Design Studies, the Human Sciences, and Warrants for Knowledge In recognition of the complex, multivariate, multilevel, iterative, and interventionist nature of design studies, those working in this research mode have argued for intensive, longitudinal studies that trace the design process and capture meaning constructed by individual subjects over time. In July 2001, the Council submitted its advice to the Minister in a report entitled "Language Policy Framework for South African Higher Education". The specific recommendation of the Council on Higher Education with respect to the development of other South African languages will be considered as part of this investigation. The level of resourcing will be comparable to the investments that were made, in the past, to develop Afrikaans as a medium of instruction in higher education. working education, IAA, committee, workshops, session. Nothing is more important for the future of society than the education of its young people. We in the space community are well aware that the study of space and the use of space technology have already had a profound impact on everyday life. Many recommendations have been put forward by groups of experts during past workshops, conferences, etc. and many activities have been undertaken, but progress is slow. The committee members organise the symposium on Space and Education during the annual International Astronautical Congress. A new session was recently created to explore educational outreach programmes as a means to promote education and novel uses of space for the education of the general public in the arts, communication and other non-traditional areas. artsed http://www.nagb.org/pubs/artsed.pdf students, responses, arts, cultures, theatre. The Nation's Report Card, the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), is the only nationally representative and continuing assessment of what America's students know and can do in various subjects. The National Assessment Governing Board (NAGB) was established under section 412 of the National Education Statistics Act of 1994 (Title IV of the Improving America's Schools Act of 1994, P.L. 103--382). 1. The assessment should affirm and articulate the arts as ways of knowing and forms of knowledge with a unique capacity to integrate the intellect, the emotions, and physical skills in the construction of meaning. The assessment should focus on what ought to be in arts education rather than what is, but idealism should be tempered with reality. 03lso0238w5 education, school, district, vocational education, amount. ROP.WendePaper1.02 higher education, students, institutions, countries, providers. This paper analyzes system and institutional level responses to the growing demand for e-learning in the US in comparison with a number of other countries and regions. It reviews the external forces and factors that are driving institutions to introduce and use ICT in this area and investigates in particular the role of globalisation and increasing competition. At the same time, however, many other countries have very strong concerns about the potential threat of further liberalization of the education market to cultural values, language, national traditions, systems and providers. Small countries may also develop considerable export activities and some even play a major role as foreign investors. facteduc Illinois, colleges, education, sciences, comprehensive undergraduate. No other partnership is more fulfilling and rewarding for us than that with further education throughout the province. For that reason, I would like to publicly welcome today the establishment of the new Department of Higher and Further Education, Training and Employment, under Minister Sean Farren. The explicit link between the two sectors and between them and Training and Employment is a public recognition of the critical importance of higher and further education for social and economic progress in Northern Ireland. Those students whose achievements we celebrate today have thus brought credit to that partnership and to Castlereagh College. I would like, for a few minutes, to look at the University's relationship with the College and also the further and higher education landscape in Northern Ireland. e_chapter_3 http://www.e-c.edu.hk/eng/reform/report/e_chapter_3.pdf education, reform, teachers, schools, Review. The implementation of the education reform commenced in October 2000. Over the past year, a number of reform measures were put in place incrementally, including the reform of the POA and SSPA systems, as well as increasing opportunities for senior secondary and higher education. In addition, a number of measures were introduced to strengthen support for schools and teachers. For school principals and teachers, their opportunities for professional development have been enhanced and they are provided with greater autonomy in designing curriculum and teaching strategies. In 2002, the following reviews will be completed and public consultations will be conducted: i. Review of the systems of kindergartens and child care centres (conducted by the Joint Working Group set up by the Education Department and the Social Welfare Department); ii. Review of language education (conducted by the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research); iii. Review of teachers' professional development (conducted by the Advisory Committee on Teacher Education and Qualifications); iv.
