The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) is the learned society for the chemical sciences and the professional body for chemical scientists in the UK with a membership of 45,000. The RSC welcomes a fundamental review of the nature and purpose of higher education. The ubiquity of the application of the chemical sciences is such that there needs to be geographically widespread provision of all of the above. Two year programmes should be characterised by close industry/FE/HE collaboration. In the chemical sciences there are already a variety of lengths of courses, with or without periods of work experience or study abroad, and leading to both bachelors and masters awards. United States produced a new model of higher education, one that was more dyn-amic, inclusive and productive than ever before. These developments have taken place against a widely held expectation that the goal of an undergraduate liberal arts education is to provide students with knowledge, values and skills that will prepare them for active and effective participation in society. In the view of meeting participants, higher education has a responsibility to prevent such disorientation by providing graduates with the capacity to manage change and shape their own futures and that of human society consistent with enduring and shared values. The information revolution and economic liberalization together have unleashed productivity and spurred innovation, great benefits that create new challenges for individuals. fape_9 http://www.fape.org/pubs/fape_9.pdf education, child, special education, school, re-evaluation, meeting, IEP, FAPE, review, disability, FAPE Project, school staff, member, writing, related services.
