forprofitandcc
http://www.stanford.edu/group/ncpi/documents/pdfs/forprofitandcc.pdf This report addresses contemporary concerns about the competitive
threat from for-profit educational institutions, contrasts national data
on for-profits with national data on private non-profit and public post-secondary
institutions, and examines case study data comparing a for-profit chain
to three public community colleges located near branches of the chain. For example, it shows that the publics account for 87 percent of the associates and 84 percent of the sum of all associates degrees and certificates conferred by two-year institutions. This suggests that students in for-profit institutions looking for a package of skills rather than a full degree may be more likely to leave with some formal credentials than they would if they enrolled in a public community college. Third, it is interesting that the four-year, for-profit sector, which grew during the mid-1990s, confers as many associates as bachelors degrees. Partnerships Many school districts are overwhelmed with new state and federal demands for accountability in student achievement. Though it may seem counterintuitive to adopt a broader focus, we argue that working in large-scale partnerships is the best way to achieve ambitious student-performance goals. By working together to take into consideration each other's view of the issue, members of e ective partnerships develop a broader and shared understanding of the problem. For this reason, partnerships should not be narrowly constituted; and when school reform is the focal issue, it is particularly important that parents have a prominent voice in the partnership arrangement. 02_03_eaya_cte http://www.nbpts.org/pdf/02_03_eaya_cte.pdf students, assessors, entry, materials, teaching, responses, videotaping, practice, teachers. ARRL members have contributed more than $205,000 to fund the Amateur Radio Education & Technology Program to inspire a new generation of radio amateurs. The Education & Technology Program was born in 2000 as means to use Amateur Radio to meet two of America's challenges: (1) to improve the educational experience by enticing students to greater participation in science, math, language arts and social studies, and (2) to create a skilled technological workforce for the future. This is done at no cost to the teachers. On the Web site, teachers will find educational materials and activities, ideas for recruiting youth, information on grants, scholarships, awards and certificates. They will also find information on registering their school to talk to the astronauts on the International Space Station. 01-09 education, technology, multicultural education, students, schools, teacher education, learning, internet, culture. Many educators who acknowledge potential benefits of a merger between technology and multicultural education call for updating the physical infrastructures of schools. In schools where such updates (i.e., re-wiring) have occurred, teachers are making widespread use of the internet and other computer-based technology. And the knowledge and skills students acquire in these schools typically are being reinforced by computer availability and internet access in their homes. He has detailed five critical dimensions of multicultural education: content integration, knowledge construction, prejudice reduction, equity pedagogy, and empowering school culture and social structure. Student-generated threads facilitate a class learning community that allows those of diverse cultural and national origins to perspective-take while simultaneously examining their own ideas about cultural diversity. wagenetic genetics, educators, resources, Washington, health, plans, professionals, physicians, school. Residents statewide assisted with the development of this genetics education plan through participation in research, meetings or other consultation facilitated by EvansGroup under contract with the Washington State Department of Health. This plan is organized around the many diverse groups, or educational audiences, of individuals, professionals and organizations who have a stake in genetics issues. Many genetics education activities have been made possible or promoted through grants from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, private foundations, and public sources. For example, University of Washington Counseling and Advice on Reproductive Exposures (CARE NW) is a telephone consultation resource, which at the outset, was identified as targeting audiences such as adoption workers, physicians and the general public. To further advance effective strategies in the nation's public schools, the Fund also identifies and cultivates innovative and promising ideas to provide hands-on assistance to teachers and schools nationwide. Once these ideas are fully developed, the Fund helps education providers launch their work so that the products, programs, and services they offer can be widely used in school settings. vol7no2 faculty, students, teaching, faculty members, education, compensation, administrators, curriculum, distance learning. As a follow-up to its survey of distance education faculty, NEA conducted two thre e hour focus groups with 12 higher education faculty members in each of two sessions on June 23, 2000, at the NEA headquarters in Washington, DC. In the telephone survey, 72% of distance learning faculty have a positive opinion of distance learning, compared to only 14% who have a negative opinion. Faculty were clearly more concerned about controlling how their intellectual property was used than the amount of money they might get for that property. Faculty could exceed that limit by one or two students, but no more. strategicplan http://education.indiana.edu/faculty/strategicplan.pdf students, schools, faculty, SoE, support, education, partnerships, teaching, community.
