struct http://www.columbia.edu/~esp2/struct.pdf
In this country, I remember, economists estimated in the mid-1950's that unemployment could fall to 4.5 percent or less without bringing an inflation problem.
My first effort, on the slump in Western Europe, with Jean-Paul Fitoussi (Fitoussi and Phelps, 1988), invoked wage stickiness nominal or real, to show how the overseas shock to real interest rates that began in 1981 could drive Europe's unemployment rate above the natural rate.
The third big theme of the theory is the role of wealth and social capital---or the flow of benefits therefrom (see also Zoega, 1993.) If I own my house and a car and whatnot, I am more likely to be an independent sort with a high propensity to quit or shirk or strike or be absent from my job.
It may spin the economy into an expectational disequilibrium, and the postulated nonmonetary nature of the model's economy is no guard against that.

Toward Integrated Employment for All - Public
We have reached a crisis in the unemployment and underemployment of people with high support needs who are considered to have the most severe disabilities.
Supported employment, while not yet fully realizing its potential, offers by far the best opportunities for employment and a career for individuals most at risk of living life without a job.
Yet, studies show the reality for most of these individuals is lifelong segregation, in day treatment, habilitation, or sheltered training.
1. A national review of facility-based, sheltered day services that documents the outcomes and costs for people with severe disabilities, including median wages, benefits, skills gained, level of integration, and other quality of life indicators.

Employment Impact of September 11_Update
industry, city, unemployment, York City, employment, attacks, job loss.
On November 5, 2001, the Fiscal Policy Institute released a report, "The Economic Impact of the September 11 World Trade Center Attacks," that estimated that New York City would lose a total of 105,200 jobs in the fourth quarter of 2001 as a result of the WTC attacks.
Of this total job loss to the city, an estimated 79,700 of the lost jobs were likely to involve layoffs; the remainder (25,500) involved jobs that were relocated outside of the city.
The November 5 report was based on estimates made by FPI that were developed through numerous interviews with industry sources supplemented with economic analysis of the city economy and input-output analysis of the multiplier effects.

appointment, faculty, Chancellor, discharge, employment, policy, termination.
The current budget crisis has raised nine core questions regarding the continued employment for EPA employees, both faculty and EPA professionals.
An EPA professional on an "at will" appointment may be discontinued at any time at the discretion of the Chancellor or Chancellor's designee.
2) Discharge or imposition of serious sanctions may be based only upon: a) incompetence, b) neglect of duty, or c) misconduct of such a nature as to indicate that the individual is unfit to serve as a member of the faculty.
If you have any questions about the above please contact Eileen Goldgeier in the Office of Legal Affairs at 515-2926 or eileen_goldgeier@ncsu.edu.

employment, European, workers, policy, jobs, economy, agreement.
The conclusions of the Lisbon Summit should be incorporated into the employment guidelines and the broad economic policy guidelines.
Full employment must go hand-in-hand with action to combat ual inequality, social exclusion and poverty, the casualisation of some employment sectors and the resulting emergence of a dual employment market.
Investment in the service sector, in local employment and in the social economy would serve not only to create jobs but also to improve the quality of life.
Economic integration and the new 'knowledge economy' should encourage greater labour mobility.
The new social agenda must remove the remaining, and formidable, barriers to the free movement of workers.
Ensuring quality employment necessitates the integration into employment strategy of social rights in terms of employment conditions and health and safety at work.

The project "Gender & Tourism: Women's Employment and Participation in Tourism" aims at bringing gender aspects of tourism to the attention of policy makers, especially the issues of women's employment in the tourism industry and women's local participation in tourism planning and management.
The tourism sector definitely provides various entry points for women's employment and opportunities for creating self-employment in small and medium sized income generating activities, thus creating paths towards the elimination of poverty of women and local communities in developing countries.
Participation at the local level: Tourism, especially international tourism that involves high capital investments, has tended to be controlled by powerful vested interests and has been characterised by a lack of concern for the local communities residing in the destination areas.

tobacco, countries, workers, jobs, Employment, health, tobacco control.
While fear of job loss is causing great concern in many countries, the facts indicate that such concern is misplaced.
So the pool of potential tobacco users is growing even faster than the population.
Employment in the tobacco sector in developing countries often means low wages and health risks.
Workers in the tobacco industry would benefit if spending patterns switched from tobacco to other products, as this would potentially create better paid and safer jobs in new sectors.
Difficult working conditions In addition to the low wages---common not only to many of those growing and producing tobacco, but to many of those selling it as well---are the health threats faced by tobacco workers.
employment_tax0701
employment, taxes, tax, pay, IRS, business, income.
Joseph Kehoe and Mark Matthews discuss employer and employee responsibility for employment taxes and describe common employment tax evasion schemes.
Both employer and employee hold the responsibility for collecting and remitting withholding taxes to the IRS.
For the most part, employers withhold these taxes on behalf of their employees; but in cases where an employer does not do this, or where an employee is self-em-ployed, it is the responsibility of the employee to collect and pay withholding taxes.
Pyramiding of employment taxes is a fraudulent practice where a business withholds taxes from its employees but intentionally fails to remit them to the IRS.

Note: County tourism employment figures are separate from the statewide tourism employment figure.
Therefore, the aggregated county figures do not add up to the statewide total.
County employment figures reflect an analysis of SIC employment data.
The first calculation estimates location quotients from 95 tourism-related industries.
Six counties - Salt Lake, Summit, Utah, Davis, Washington and Weber - account for 80% of the measurable impacts of tourism in the state of Utah.
Tourism dominates the economies of counties in the northeast and southeast regions of the state, comprising a significant portion of the county's employment base, tax receipts, personal income and business profits.

laws, exempt, orientation, basis, statutory, religion, nonprofit.
Twelve states1 and the District of Columbia2 have enacted laws that prohibit discrimination in employment on the basis of ual orientation.
All the state laws and ENDA exempt religious organizations; many of the states and ENDA exempt specific nonprofit or tax-exempt organizations as well.
For those states where the law has taken effect, relatively few formal complaints of employment discrimination on the basis of ual orientation have been filed, either in absolute numbers or as a percentage of all employment discrimination complaints in the state.
We found that, in those states with a law making it illegal to discriminate in employment on the basis of orientation, relatively few complaints of such discrimination have been made.
The earliest, in the District of Columbia, took effect in 1977.

During the last 5 years the initial employment of new physics PhDs has been equally divided between temporary and permanent positions.
The majority of the permanent positions are in the industrial sector, where doctorates are using their skills and training in a technically diverse employment market.
The initial employment report is based on an annual survey of physics doctorate recipients conducted approximately six months after the end of the academic year in which they received their degrees.

This paper exploits area based piloting and age-related eligibility rules to identify treatment effects of a labor market program -- the New Deal for Young People in the UK.
The literature on the evaluation of labor market programs is voluminous, growing and somewhat sobering.
We will pay special attention to the outflows into employment, but we also examine total outflows from unemployment to all destinations.
For the evaluation to make sense with heterogeneous treatments, we must guarantee that the distribution of the relevant observable characteristics is the same in the four cells defined by eligibility and time.
eligibility specific intercept (may it be area or age defined or both, depending on the comparison group used), dt reflects common/aggregate effects and where X is included to correct for differences in observable characteristics between individuals and areas registered at the eligibility point (completion of the 6 th month in unemployment).
