This study employs the new Business Information Tracking Series (BITS) to measure the contribution of four sizes of businesses (1-19 employees, 20-99, 100-499, and 500+) to job creation in each year from 1992 to 1996 in three sectors---informa-tion technology (IT) industries, other goods-produc-ing firms, and other service-producing firms.
BITS (formerly known as the Longitudinal Establishment and Enterprise Microdata file, or LEEM) is a microdata file containing annual records for nearly every nonfarm private-sector establishment with positive payroll.
Each record contains information on an establishment's employment, payroll, location, start year, and four-digit Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code for each year that it had positive payroll, beginning in 1989.
Labor and Employment
More than 40,000 employment lawsuits are filed each year, and well over half of these are employment discrimination complaints, as compared to the 8,500 complaints filed in 1990.
This potential for increased damages has, in turn, attracted a new and more aggressive breed of plaintiffs' lawyers, including a number of high-pro-file personal injury lawyers who have little or no background in employment matters, but who are fully familiar with strategies typically employed in high-profile tort claims, such as extensive use of public relations firms to bring pressure on employer defendants.
The experience of our labor and employment lawyers is perhaps most effectively used by clients to avoid or minimize the risk of litigation.

appa he Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) leadership position in the transTportation industry challenges us to provide safety, mobility, and inclusion.
As Federal Highway Administrator, I am fully committed to equal opportunity and will not tolerate any form of discrimination in our shared working environment.
I hereby reaffirm FHWA's continuing commitment to providing all individuals who have the necessary qualifications an equal opportunity to compete for employment and advancement within the Agency.

Employment Practices Liability Insurance is a relatively new form of liability insurance.
It covers your firm, including its Directors and Officers.
While most suits are filed against large corporations, no company is immune to such lawsuits.
Most IT and technology firms recognize that employees are their most valuable assets in running an efficient business.
Businesses today are increasingly at risk for liability claims and lawsuits that arise from employment practices and related human resources issues, such as ual harassment and discrimination.
Third parties, such as customers, consumers and clients, are also more frequently seeking legal recourse for alleged discrimination or harassment.

1. The sponsors of the 1998 Workplace Employee Relations Survey (WERS98) are actively considering the case for conducting a fifth WERS in 2004.
To inform our thinking on the overall design and scope of another WERS, the sponsors welcome and seek views on all aspects of WERS, including: its broad design; the sampling population; survey content; and, survey outputs.
2. The Workplace Employment1 Relations Survey is a survey mapping the state of employment relations in workplaces across Great Britain.
Data are collected from interviews with workplace managers who have day-to-day responsibility for personnel matters, interviews with worker representatives (where they are present), and from employees via a self-completion questionnaire.

The objective of this paper is to present the latest results of a long-running survey of floorspace densities for properties in industrial use and to examine how the data collected relates to the broader economic circumstances prevailing throughout its collection.
Employment data is collected frequently and in a structured manner.
As one of the UK's leading firms of Chartered Surveyors King Sturge & Co have inhouse a large volume of data about buildings, their locations, their tenants and their physical dimensions.
The returns from long-term storage show a stable industry with little change as a result of any wider economic factors.
It is clear even from the limited time-series data, that there is little quantifiable correlation apparent between the macro-economic cycle and employment densities overall.

Event study methodology was used to assess the effects of both layoff and employment guarantee announcements on shareholder returns.
Despite the practical and theoretical importance of this topic, the financial effects of layoff and employment guarantee announcements on the firm are still unclear.
1/n ARit When the effect of the layoff announcement is being assessed over more than one day, an average AR is computed for each event day and the ARs are then summed over all the event months to estimate the average total effect of the layoff.
As stated earlier, another goal of this paper was to compare the effects of employment guarantee announcements on equity returns.

A potential for improving the offshore recovery factor from today's 44 per cent to 57 per cent was identified on this basis.

employment, workers, job loss, job losers, temporary employment, full-time, non-losers.
This paper examines workers' uses of temporary, part-time, and involuntary underemployment to bridge the gap between the loss of a job and the future acquisition of a full-time, standard job.
Using regression analyses and statisticaldependence tests, the author examines and compares the prevalence of various forms of non-traditional employment for now-employed workers who have recently lost jobs ("job losers") compared to those who haven't ("non-losers").
This general trend was particularly pronounced for the cohort of workers aged 35-54.
In a particularly eye-catching example, there is a 5.6 percentage-point differential in the rate of temporary employment for job losers compared to non-losers among this group.
The difference in non-traditional employment between job losers and non-losers consistently decreases with every year after the job loss.

The National Organization on Disability/Harris Survey conducted in 1998 found that only 29 percent of individuals with disabilities were working full or part time.
From 1986 to 1989, the number of individuals receiving disability benefits rose 80 percent, with about half receiving Social Security disability benefits and half receiving Supplemental Security Income benefits.
According to findings of the U.S. General Accounting Office, less than 1 percent of Social Security disability and Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries attain paid employment that would enable them to be economically sufficient without Social Security benefits.
