The invisible web is the part of the web that is not accessible through open search engines like Google. Many students are not aware that Google cannot find information inside library catalogs, full-text databases, electronic journals, or other proprietary document repositories on the web. In the pyramid at right, the invisible web is the bottom half, shaded in blue. It is estimated that the invisible web is two to 50 times larger than the visible web. This claim is made in the OCLC Library and Information Center Report on "Five-Year Information Trends," released this year (http://www.oclcpica.org/ content/53/pdf/5yearinformationformattrends.pdf ). The Library has used the pyramid model in Freshman Seminar for several years. Students are encouraged to think critically about information, especially from the visible, or surface web. The paper describes the process of applying SCORM to the development of an inquiry based set of learning resources and discusses implications for the design of reusable quality e-learning resources and learning objects using the SCORM model. Developers of elearning resources and materials are aware of the potential of learning objects. The idea is that if online resources and materials are designed carefully they can be reused in other settings in cost effective ways. But barriers can present themselves when people reuse learning materials, so not much reuse ever tends to occur. The prospect of the reusability of digital resources is very enticing for many stakeholders in education and despite the difficulties, interest and enthusiasm still abounds for this. The Cosmic Connection by Tim Middleton, a teacher from Austin, Texas. From what I read the video describes cosmic rays and shows how they are detected. It is "suitable for grades 6-12." Dave and I agree that the most logically presented material is found at the CHICOS Workshop site. It should provide an outline and the material for an explanation of not only cosmic rays but the use of Scintillator/PMT detectors. http://www.chicos.caltech.edu/collaboration/workshop.html1 | 2
