What is Flash? Macromedia's Flash is a vector based graphics animation program that gives you the power to create complex animations and interactive web pages with relative ease. These images can then be animated using the Timeline and the Stage (see below). After animating the symbol we will export the file into Flash Player (.swf) format so the animation can be viewed over the web. 1. To bring an image into Flash click File>Import and select the image file you wish to animate. Give the animation a title, click save, and you have created a Flash movie. In this exercise we will build on the frame by frame animation and add a few features that Flash provides to make the process easier. Tweening is an automatic process in which Flash creates the animation between 2 8. Repeat steps 7 & 8 from the first exercise to view the animation and create a Flash player movie.

This chapter provides the information you need to enhance your Web site with multimedia files, including: Using Windows Media files You can enhance your Web site by offering your visitors a variety of digital media including streaming audio, video and slide shows. All of Hostway's Windows plans provide support for Macromedia Flash and Shockwave files. Flash is a popular format for delivering vector-based graphics and animations over the Internet, while Shockwave enables you to deliver rich, interactive, multimedia content. Flash "movies" end with the extension .swf. Shockwave files end with the extension. To add a Flash movie or Shockwave file to your site, upload the file to the Web server in binary mode. There are a number of ways you can link to your Flash movies in your Web site. You can also set the Flash movie to open in a new browser window.

For those of you who have been working in Flash, it's a great time to catch the wave. For those of you who are new to Flash, there's good news too--Flash is easy to learn, and the sooner you get started, the sooner you'll be part of the new production method. As more and more TV series and features are created in Flash, more windows of opportunity will open up for those who want to produce, create, and pitch new content. Studio executives will always be looking for great story concepts, but having a project that can easily be made in Flash will be an advantage as more studio executives get savvy to Flash production. Flash empowers talented artists and producers to compete with larger studios. As Flash levels the playing field, there remain the same snares and pitfalls that have always existed in any busi-ness. There is a market for good content, but even a Flash production takes time and money to produce good animation. Flash makes it easier to create great content, but you

For brevity's sake, I will cover some of the elements in a cursory manner to give you a survey course in creating special FX in a Flash-animated cartoon. Like most things in life, and especially in Flash animation, there are many ways to Years ago, when animation was created using acetate cels, the FX animator was limited to the number of levels he or she could utilize. Welcome to Flash animation and its ability to create spectacular special FX. Unlike the old cel animation layer limitations, you can use as many layers as you need in Flash. An ink-and-paint system can utilize as many layers as needed, but Flash can have layers within layers by using animated symbols. A tradi-tional animation pipeline sets apart special FX from character animation. The typical Flash setup has animation artists laying out special FX, animating the characters, and finishing the FX. There might be some animation artists who are more adept at special FX than others
Many developers have adopted Macromedia Flash as a useful tool that allows greater interactivity and multimedia compared to HTML pages. This paper reports on a comparative evaluation of Flash and HTML versions of a single site, focusing on user information-seeking goals, behavior, and responses to each version of the site. But the tradeoffs are significant: Flash content is invisible to search engine spiders and inaccessible to many disabled users and to users who do not have and cannot get the Flash plug-in. This white paper placed the onus on Flash developers to understand their users and simplify the task process to increase Flash usability (MacGregor 2001b). Flash, on the other hand, is superior to HTML when animation and sound are central to the content and when the user experience relies on complex interactivity and consistency of layout and behavior across browsers and platforms. These tasks were the same as the Flash tasks except for task 3 in Flash which

SEO Tips

The process of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) has gained popularity in recent years as a means to reach target audiences through improved web site positioning in search engines. However, few have an understanding of the SEO methods employed in order to produce such results. The following tips are some basic best practices to consider in optimizing your site for improved search engine performance. The first step to any SEO campaign is to identify the search terms (also referred to as key terms, or key words) for which you want your site pages to be found in search engines - these are the words that a prospective visitor might type into a search engine to find relevant web sites. These are considerations that need careful attention as you begin the SEO process. After all, it's no use having a good search engine ranking for terms no one's looking for. Your target terms should be at least two words in length and, of course, be relevant to the content of your site

The kit contains a Dreamweaver Behavior and some example files with source code. The detection kit helps you create a page that will appear before any Flash content and that will detect the user's configuration and redirect them to the appropriate page.   Flash started as a web animation tool and remains one of the best on the market. Flash animation has been used for everything from movie credits and DVD menus to billboards on the roofs of taxicabs. In this chapter, you'll use a few essential animation techniques to create your first animated Flash movie: a short ad for Flash Out of the Box. If you have Flash installed, the file should open in a standalone version of the Flash Player that is included with the Flash MX 2004 authoring tool. While using a single layer is sufficient for static graphics, animated symbols (including animated graphic symbols) require their own layer. We now have the text we need for our animation, but we can't animate it separately if it is all on one layer. Text, unlike other elements in a Flash movie, does not need to be converted to a symbol before ap-plying a motion tween to it, because Flash con-verts it to a symbol automatically for you. Later, we'll publish HTML from Flash to create a web
