The Timeline is the heart of all animation activity in Flash. When
creating animations, the Timeline is the panel you'll use most often. Keyframe
Defines a moment where animation changes occur. You can click and drag (scrub)
the Playhead back and forth to quickly preview your animation. -- Animation
in Flash -- Frame rate The number of frames per second Flash attempts to
play when playing the animation. Animations with frame rates higher than
30 fps will not look noticeably superior compared with animations set at
between 24 and 30 fps. Flash animations, just like in TV and film animation,
use a series of still images displayed in succession to give the illusion
of motion. Unlike hand-drawn animation, Flash takes care of presenting frames
that do not change over time, or frames that change in a mathematically
predicable manner. Creating Animations and Graphics with Macromedia Flash 2In Flash, a Symbol is a graphic, button or movie clip that is created once and can be reused throughout a movie or in other movies. You can also place movie clip instances inside the Timeline of a button symbol to create animated buttons. Graphic Graphic symbols are used for static images and to create reusable pieces of animation that are tied to the Timeline of the main movie. Flash adds the symbol to the Library, and the selection on the stage becomes an instance of the symbol. Flash adds the symbol to the Library and switches to symbol-edit mode. When editing a symbol in a new window, Flash switches to symbol-edit mode. Creating Animation and Graphics using Macromedia Flash: Intermediate Level Though it is possible to select enabled buttons, in general, it is best to disable buttons while working, and enable buttons to quickly test their behavior. Dreamweaver also provides more control over layout and design of the page that contains the Macromedia Flash movie that the - Has tools for complex animation, as well as excellent drawing tools Flash's Native format is vector images, which reduce the size of graphic files. The .fla extension is native, and can only be opened in Flash Flash exports web-ready files as .swf .swf files should be tested before being published Always keep the original .fla file Movies are created by placing objects on the stage, editing these objects, animating them and adding interactivity You can create graphics in Flash,or import them from another program such as Photoshop In addition to animating an objects location, you can also animate an objects appearance Animation can be an important part of a Web site, CD-ROM, Demo, or game The perception of motion is an illusion made up from a series of still images "Persistence of Vision" is the basis for frame rates in animations Frames rates of 10-12 fps generally provide smooth computer-based animation Flash only stores the attributes that change from frame to frame, It's possible to get started drawing and animating right away. However, Flash might not act the way you expect. Although Flash is consistent with other types of software in several ways, there are many more ways in which Flash is different. It's actually possible to learn to make a Flash animation in a matter of seconds! Just to prove that it can be easy, you'll make a simple animation in a matter of seconds. This is where we will draw how we want the animation to appear at frame 20 (see Figure 1.1). The pixel numbers are unimportant because when you deliver your Flash movie to the Web, you can specify that Flash scale to any pixel dimension. Clearly, the most common use for Flash is to create interactive animations for the Web. One of the two main file types in Flash is the source Flash movie that you save while working. Macromedia Flash MX is the professional standard authoring tool for producing high-impact Web experiences. Flash has now become the industry standard application for the development of `rich media' online content. This course will work with symbols and instances, create extensive Timelines with independent animations, build more complex navigation controls, work with sound, and optimize movies for viewing. After completing this course, delegates will know how to incorporate symbols and instances into their Flash projects; better organize their larger projects through the use of scenes and frame labels; add interactivity and sound elements to their Flash animations and know how to test and publish their Flash Who Should Attend: This course is course is intended for delegates with some experience creating Flash animations, who want to build more efficient, optimized animations that allow for greater user interactivity. By the end of the course the delegate will be able to: Flash_ThornburgCOURSE DESCRIPTION: Web Animation with Macromedia Flash will teach students how to use Macromedia Flash to create dynamic, compelling, and highly interactive Web content. This tutorial will not deal with java applets or java programs in details, only use it to demonstrate an alternative way to create animations for web, different from ones created with "multimedia authoring tools". The other one will be created with the multimedia authoring tool, "Macromedia flash". Animating with Flash In this part we will explore how to make simple (non interactive) animations with Flash. We know that an animation is a bunch of images, and from this we can deduce that the more images the more beliveable animation. In the two previous Flash animations, the fps was 12. This means, if we where to create10 minutes of flash animation, we would need to create 12*60*10 = 7200 different frames. We specified Macromedia Flash Imbedded In E-Mail Research For ListrakBy itself, Flash is a wonderful creative tool. When coupled with the numerous capabilities of the ListrakT email campaign management application, Flash expands its ability into a whole new realm of attention-generating artistic expression. From eye-popping images to compelling animation, Flash can add significant value to the personalized email message. Before you begin coding Flash into your next email message, there are few "best practices" and guidelines you'll want to consider. Flash Environments When you view a Flash .swf file in either a browser or in an email, you are actually looking at the Macromedia Flash Player being embedded into the client you are viewing it in. For environments not capable of playing Flash animation, include a background image--that can be seen-- in your programming. In order to allow your Flash file to use profiling text, you must pass a variable into Flash. For recipients unable to view Flash in their email client, embed a link that will takeFlash 2 Screensaver provides a windows explorer like interface for Macromedia flash file management. In Introduction to Macromedia Flash MX, students will explore Flash MX's drawing, tweening, animation, and audio capabilities to build interactive content that will make a Web site come alive. Intermediate Macromedia Flash MX introduces students to the animation techniques and ActionScript programming you need to create attention-grabbing movies. Flash MX is capable of creating interactive movies as well as eye-catching animation. In this class, students will learn how to use ActionScript and other advanced techniques to build Flash MX movies that go beyond straightforward animation. The following topics are covered by this lesson: Introduction: Intermediate Macromedia Flash MX, Movie Structure, ActionScript Fundamentals, The Flash Movie Introduction to Flash 5 In this course, you will view a Flash movie and modify the appearance of the Stage. You will draw, paint, and create custom colors and line styles using Flash tools. Three different types of animation will be covered: frame-by-frame, shape tweened, and motion tweened animation. Finally, you will publish a Flash movie. The Flash Environment What is Flash? The Flash Work Environment Converting Text into Shapes Creating Animation Ad Specs_DC Flash clicktag_implementationFor the flash creative to work properly in our ad serving system (DART), please insert a click tag variable into the .fla file so that clicks can be tracked. Macromedia Flash Trafficking Guide Macromedia currently recommends a method to track clicks on Flash ads with the use of variables. Previously, the click tracking string had to be embedded into the Flash movie (swf file). The recommended "clickTag" method uses variables to pass the click tracking string into Flash movies. Please note that some sites have specific Flash requirements. For example, for AOL, follow their Flash requirements instead of the requirements below. SWF Movie Requirements (for the Flash developer) Some examples of these situations are: Clicking on the Flash creative launches a pop-up window Using FSCommands to communicate between the browser and the Flash creative Sending variables from the Flash creative to the click through URLFlash is another animation tool for the web. The primary reasons for the popularity of Flash are that it can deliver moderately large file to web clients who have installed the client-side plug-in for decompression and interpretation, Flash Player, and it is scriptable. Action Script has a syntax that it very much like Javascript and so shares some similarities with C. If you are familiar with C or willing to spend the time to learn a few lines of code Flash can become a very powerful tool for animation. If you don't want to bother learning to program, however, the clumsiness of Flash relative to Fireworks makes it something of a waste of your time. This screen shot shows the Flash GUI. Here is where the animation as you will see it on a web site is displayed. A Flash version of the Fireworks animated gif is ender construction. The code needed to make that happen is very simple : on release { getURL("./flash/flash.pdf", "_self"); } get URL is a function that is encoded PR_FlashFlash is used in several ad spaces on the Fairfax Digital network. If you are using Flash as part of a DHTML placement, please also refer to PR_DHTML. The following guide explains the process and the individual placements for using Flash on Fairfax Digital. Expanding banner and leaderboard creatives cannot be implemented using DHTML/HTML. Fairfax Digital only serves expanding creatives implemented in Flash, and will do so through an iframe ad tag. To track clicks in a Flash creative, specific ActionScript needs to be implemented in a button (usually the width and height of the animation) that is in the top layer of the animation. The ActionScript code should look like the following for popunder flash creatives: on (release) { - The animation should not contain strobing effects. - Creative should be provided in the Flash 6 format. - Newsletter creatives cannot be implemented in flash and are limited to animated gifs. Why Search Engines Hate Flash If you're using Flash for your web site, you will experience the following problems: If there's text in the Flash animation, most search engines won't be able to index that text; likewise, if there are links to other web sites or pages embedded in Flash, search engines can't follow those links as well. Thus, if you build your entire site on Flash, it will not be visible to search engines at all. Macromedia, the inventor of Flash, is working closely with search engines to help them index Flash content- with some success: FAST (AllTheWeb.com and others) and Google are known to, at least partially, index Flash sites. Wouldn't it be easy to extract text and links from a Flash animation? Basically yes, but there's an underlying problem: Flash animations don't fit into the web page paradigm. However, search engines can't decipher Flash animations to a degree, where they would be able to extract pages or semantics (like headings) to come up Flash ActionScript: fundamentals This course introduces Flash users to program with ActionScript with an eye towards ActionScript best practices. Flash animations are great for web use because of its utilization of low bandwidth vector graphics. To begin the animation process, you have to understand how Flash works. You can apply these basic animation steps to animate any object that you import or draw into Flash. So, in order to grasp the basics of Flash Interaction, we will learn to create a basic button and add "Actions" that tell Flash what to do when the button is pressed. VI. Publishing Flash Creations Now, that we've created an animation and a button in Flash, we need to think about the publishing options. Most web browsers come with the current version of the Flash Player but certain users may still need to get the latest version from Macromedia.com. HTML (.html) - You need to use this publish setting in addition to the .swf option if you are going to make your Flash creation the whole web page and would like it to 1 | 2
