The Enrichment Programme is offered by the University of Salford and a select group of local Colleges*. These include all of our Associate Colleges, plus other colleges with strong links to the University. We are working in partnership to give College students an opportunity to experience Higher Education in a variety of forms prior to completing their UCAS applications. Our aim is to help you to make the right choice about your future studies in Higher Education. The Enrichment programme includes opportunities for you to experience learning in a University environment such as the events outlined in this programme, and to meet students who are currently pursuing undergraduate courses. It is also our intention to invite former students from your College to come along with advice on how to manage the transition to Higher Education. This is a great opportunity for you to gain a valuable insight into Higher Education, even if you have no intention of applying to the University

Start designing twice as fast with CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 12! The first to offer intelligent drawing tools, it provides unique tools that interpret and react to your needs. It also reduces the number of clicks required to get the job done, giving you fewer steps in the design process, less re-purposing time and faster reviews. Improved file compatibility streamlines your workflow even more, offering support for SVG, AutoCAD , HPGL, Adobe Photoshop , Adobe Illustrator , PDF, and new Microsoft Office export. In addition to its powerful illustration and digital imaging applications, CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 12 also includes Corel R.A.V.E. 3--a powerful program for creating Web graphics and Macromedia Flash animations. Where some applications only offer layer-based vector animation, Corel R.A.V.E. 3 delivers full vector animation capabilities. Featuring symbols, support for sprites, enhanced behavior support, the ability to animate 3D vector extrusions, text on a path and

A team of Web development professionals at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) will evaluate the Web sites and provide feedback regarding content, design and architecture, and coding to the Solar Decathlon teams. Feedback will include suggestions for improving content, design, and architecture, as well as guidance for complying with coding requirements. From April 15, 2004 until June 1, 2004, the NREL Web development team will review the Solar Decathlon teams' sites and provide suggestions to help the teams improve content, and design and architecture. OTA is your leading resource for information about this industry. An organic products-based mini-movie with a Star Wars flavor, "Grocery Store Wars" is a creative project undertaken by OTA in collaboration with Free Range Graphics, creator of the popular and award-winning flash animation "The Meatrix" (www.TheMeatrix.com). The goal: to reach shoppers, especially young adults, in a clever way to encourage them to try organic products when they shop. After watching the mini-movie, shoppers are encouraged to learn more about organic agriculture and what they can do to support organic farms. They also are urged In addition, organic meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products come from animals that are never given antibiotics or growth hormones. Every developer of elearning resources and materials has heard at some time about the notion of learning objects and the idea that if online resources and materials are designed carefully, it should be possible to reuse them in other settings in cost-effective ways. But many barriers present themselves when people try to reuse learning materials so not much reuse ever tends to occur. The prospect of the reusability of digital resources is very enticing for many stakeholders in education and despite the difficulties, interest and enthusiasm still abounds for this. SCORM has been developed by the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL)initiative and provides a design and development model for learning resources which strongly supports reusability and interoperability. The paper describes SCORM and its potential advantages and discusses its planned implementation in the development of learning materials in the National Flexible Toolbox Project. The first noticeable aspect

Illinois Web Accessibility Standards 1.1

The Illinois Web Accessibility Standards are designed to provide practical and specific guidelines for the development of web sites, intranets, and web-based applications that are accessible to Illinoisans with disabilities. The basic concepts should be understandable by anyone with a general familiarity with web technologies. The Illinois Standards exceed the minimum requirements in many areas, incorporating a number of WCAG "Priority 2" and "Priority 3" Checkpoints as well as additional requirements identified through practical experience working with Illinoisans with disabilities. Individuals with disabilities use a variety of accessibility techniques and assistive technologies to access web-based information. From a practical standpoint, web sites must therefore be compliant and compatible with these accessibility tools in order to be accessible to people with disabilities. Computer-based multimedia technology for distance learning and research has come of age - the price point is acceptable, domain experts using off-the-shelf software can prepare compelling materials, and the material can be efficiently delivered via the Internet to a large audience. As described subsequently, animation can be effective in presenting biological concepts. Flash, on the other hand, created through the Flash3 software, is a method of creating simple vector-based animation content of extremely small download size, which can be resized with no degradation of image definition. Sound support is provided in Flash, but sound compression encoding does not appear to be as efficient as that used in a Shockwave presentation. For this reason, dissemination of even a 10-minute Flash presentation containing a synchronized sound track is currently effectively impossible except through high-speed network connectivity. Given the limitations of file sizes required for

This report covers the twelve-month period ending December 2004. The music program saw its most active year yet, with the inauguration of new programs and an increase in publications and presentations by both students and faculty. Collaboration continues to be the mode of operation for ACS staff, program leaders and committees as they seek to provide resources and opportunities that invite exploration of ideas, policies, and practices that ultimately result in an enhanced, challenging, and exciting teaching/learning and campus environment. The Council of Deans and the ACS presidents continue to provide oversight and receive progress reports and updates at regularly scheduled intervals. As always, those who benefit from the programs and activities made possible by the New Dimensions Grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation are grateful for this support and vote of confidence in ACS's ability to be on the cutting edge of higher education practices and policies. The following

Sci 1101 Labs: Ground-Level Ozone

In this exercise we will be examining ground-level ozone, commonly referred to as "smog" ("smoke" + "fog" = "smog"). Smog is formed by the combination of air pollutants and sunlight, and can have adverse effects on humans and other organisms. You have likely heard of ozone in a different capacity. Ozone also occurs high above the earth's surface in the stratosphere, where it serves a protective function by blocking harmful ultraviolet radiation from the sun. View the animation below from the U.S. EPA and the Pima County (AZ) Department of Environmental Quality to learn about the process. Let's examine the functioning of the human respiratory system with another Flash animation from the EPA-Pima County site. First view the "Normal Breathing" animation and then examine how ozone affects respiration.
