This article provides an overview of the Flash program and media convergence. The prior article, published in the last issue of Feedback, dealt with the impact of Macromedia Flash on interactive biomedical animation. Frame-by-Frame animation is closer to traditional animation. Sound is a very important element in animation. Background soundtracks can be synchronized to the animation using the Streaming setting. Interactive hot-spots can link segments within a given animation, or call open a Website over the Internet. For example, a button can direct the viewer to a relevant topic in a previous animation sequence, or open a browser to a page on your Website. Flash also offers a separate print package free-of-charge, which allows a viewer to print information by clicking on a Web banner ad.2 While I'm not planning on using banner ads any time soon, I do think this feature can be useful for delivering a take-home-message after viewing an animated sequence on a uses Flash to

Define the term foreign key. i. Suggest the datatypes that should be used for each of the fields in the above table. ii. Suggest a field from the above table, which can be set as the primary key. d) What is the full form of MPEG? What kinds of files are stored using the MPEG file format? Name any two formats in which a Flash movie can be published. Name the two kinds of tweening. c) Write the procedure and property settings for animating the above scenario.

In this tutorial, you'll learn how to both prepare your images in Fireworks through batch processing, and use a technique that allows you to quickly rename and number your images. Once your images are ready you'll automatically import the photos in sequence and add the simple ActionScript that creates the click-through interface. Before getting started let's review the steps: 1. Decide on the size of the Flash movie and the size of the photos that will be inserted into it. 4. Import the images into the Flash movie 5. The Flash movie will be 350 X 267 to allow for some room for buttons, titles, and interface. 1. File >> Open Navigate to the set of images select all and check the "open as animation" box at the bottom. Flash will recognize that, because of how it is named, this one file appears to be part of a sequence and will ask you to import all. Flash puts one image per frame for as many frames as are needed.
ENCYCLOPEDIA" Corpedia is in the business of making available digital content over the Internet: in this case, the content is the wisdom and knowledge of the world's most respected experts on important business issues. Corpedia, whose name is derived from "corporate ency-clopedia," was founded in 1998, and is based in Phoenix Arizona. The compa-ny obtains content from the leading authorities on a specific topic, and then packages that material into Web-based, multi-media courses for use in business environments. To date, Corpedia has published nearly 100 courses. EXPERT "CONTENT PROVIDERS" The first step in the process is to obtain the base content material. After audio record-ing, the project is turned over to Corpedia's crew of Web developers, who add Flash animation and other multi-media treatments. For example, the audio file is imported into the Flash animation file, but it also stays in the audio file.
The spot, part of a campaign by Merkley Newman Harty, is based on real kids talking about their anti-drug message. For Paterson, this spot was his directorial debut. Curious Project Producer, Jenn Mann, commented on Paterson's lack of prior commercial experience as benefiting the production process. "Not knowing the process, James had more freedom to preserve his original vision of the piece. We didn't seek out a Flash artist in particular, but we were attracted to James' work because of its' intrinsic artistic integrity and unique aesthetic. The different characters are animated line drawings that morph from one character to the next, eventually pulling out of the line drawing to reveal a live girl who states, "This is my anti-drug." The entire spot was done using Flash animation. This may be the first animated commercial done 100% in Flash." Flash is an inexpensive program designed for web applications, but with a little ingenuity, it can be used in place of much more expensive and complicated professional animation software. Because Flash is cheap, easy to learn, and ubiquitous, it is an appealing alternative to traditional broadcast animation and motion graphics production tools like After Effects. This class presents various approaches to high-end 2D animation in Flash: full animation, limited animation, cut-out, and rotoscope. Also titles, motion graphics for broadcast, and compositing Flash animation with live action video in post. Students may use Flash to: produce broadcast or film quality 2-D character animation; enhance live action broadcast video projects with high-end motion graphics; modify existing web animation for broadcast video. Examples of high-end animation produced with Flash will be shown. Flash Actionscript is the heart of Flash for advanced interactivity. Rigorous attention is placed

This document is designed to establish a basic framework with which to approach accessible design in Macromedia Flash. In order to build accessible Flash content, designers need to develop at least a limited understanding of a screen reader and other assistive technologies. For the Flash designer and developer, the challenge of is to remove the obstacles that prevent users with disabilities from effectively using a site or application. In order to create accessible Flash content, it is important to consider the use cases for people with disabilities. While Flash has long been an essential enhancement to the content for people with cognitive disabilities, it was only with this release that people with visual impairments were able to access Flash content. It is up to the designer to assign a text description of any graphic or animated elements in a Flash movie. While Flash is now much more than an animation tool, it is still commonly used to create and deliver animations for a

Flash MX for Interactive Simulation will teach you a sound, logical framework for designing and implementing simulators and simulation-based training. The methodologies and system architecture are implemented in Flash MX, but the principles--evolved from real engineering best practices--are applica-ble to any development platform. We have developed many simulations of varying complexity using the methodologies and our Flash MX implementa-tion, so you can benefit from the experience that has gone into the implemen-tation. The chapters on the statechart notation are completely independent of ActionScript programming and hence should be understandable to technically oriented team members who may not be familiar with Flash or ActionScript. Because this book is about teaching a methodology that requires practice to become proficient (and is certainly worth the time), you may be disappointed and confused if you simply browse for quick tips and

Karen Raugust looks at how convenience and flexibility make distance learning a viable option for animation education and training. Distance learning has become an increasingly attractive alternative for animation training and education. The rise of broadband and price reductions for animation software have driven growth, as has increased demand from animators looking for convenience and flexibility. All of its programs are intended to build interest in and understanding of animation, as well as develop future professional animators. It is introducing a Flash animation course this fall that will teach the basics of character animation along with software instruction. Anthony Rossano, president of Mesmer Animation Labs, a Seattle-based training center -- one of several animation training facilities offering online courses -- was skeptical about online distance learning when it first took off more than five years ago. It's difficult to teach the concepts of 3 D

Simulation: bringing e-learning to a new level URL: http://www.computeruser.com/articles/2207,1,1,1,0701,03.html As an engineer in the U.S. Navy, Ken Freyer learned how to run a hydrofoil's powerful gas-turbine engines on a computer, manipulating virtual controls in a program that simulated the consequences of making a mistake while skimming across the water at 35 knots. Today, as a local manager for Verizon Communications in Aberdeen, N.J., Freyer sharpens his leadership skills by playing a computer game that conjures up a series of business meetings of escalating complexity and anxiety potential. More powerful processors, high-end graphics cards, and animation tools such as Macromedia Flash have brought simulation to the desktop over the past two years, allowing employees like Freyer to practice their newfound skills during lunch breaks and at home as well as in a traditional e-learning lab. Flash technology is "probably the greatest single advance that's enabled

QuickTime Pro Basics

Before learning how to add other elements to your QuickTime movies, like titles, sound and animation, it is helpful to have a basic understanding of the architecture of QuickTime. Difference Between QuickTime 1. Movie track - Contains copyright information, annotations, and other general information on the entire movie 2. Video track - Digitized video, rendered 3D animation, or any other compiled image sequence, with optional special effects 3. Audio track - CD-quality audio or other audio formats, may also be a background music sound track 4. Music track - MIDI music with QuickTime instruments 5. Text track - Text imported into QuickTime for titles, subtitles, credits, notes, and other uses 6. This includes text files, image stills, animation, sound files, and all the new video components that you have saved. A video track can contain images, animation or full motion video.

Before we dive head long into PHP, we're going to spend a chapter looking at the facilities available to us from within our Flash movies to interact with the server and load dynamic data. Although this chapter is mainly focused on the Flash side of things, you will find a sprinkling of PHP code here and there and an impressive practical case study at the end. It'll only take two seconds and these details will also form the basis of your user profile on the PHP for Flash forum. It'll give you an insight into just how well PHP and Flash work together and how simple it is to put real PHP power into your own Flash movies, sites and applications. When the loadVariablescommand is called, the file identified by urlis fetched by the Flash plug-in and the variables are loaded into our Flash movie. Its job is to take the data from the Flash form and store it in the database, then fetch all the information in the database and return it back to the Flash form. In the course of
