This day of ghosts, witches and skeletons dates back to an old pagan custom.
Children make lanterns out of pumpkins that look like a person's face and put them in front of their houses so that 'bad people' will go away.
Children also go to their neighbours' houses and say 'trick or treat'.
The neighbour has to give them something like chocolate, fruit or some money.
If they don't give them anything, the children will play a trick on them, e.g. wrap their car in toilet paper, fill the letterbox with stones etc.
