The staff of the Student Health Insurance Office would like to welcome you to the new school year and wishes you the best of health during your college experience at the University of Northern Colorado. . Because unexpected health problems and accidents occur to students, we believe that UNC offers the best health care that is possible. It is a policy of the UNC Board of Trustees that all students who are enrolled for 9 credit hours or more are required to have health insurance. This is to ensure that health care costs will not interfere with your academic goals. All students are automatically enrolled in the university student health insurance plan and billed along with other university services. If you prefer to have other insurance, it will be necessary for you to show proof of insurance and submit a waiver form to the UNC Health Insurance Office by the 10th day of classes. I encourage you to review the benefits of the university student health insurance plan that is described in this brochure. The university student health insurance plan is accepted by Doctors and other medical providers across the United States. If you are enrolled in a health maintenance organization (HMO), you should determine the level of benefits that are payable in the Greeley area. The waiver petition must be signed by the student and must include a photocopy of the valid comparable health insurance ID Card. Outpatient prescription drugs are only covered expenses if obtained at network pharmacies or if dispensed by the Student Health Center. Health Insurance Rising health care costs have made it very expensive to be injured or ill. . Many types of health insurance are available at various prices. Some policies pay most of your health care bills for any serious injury or illness. Some policies pay an amount directly related to your actual health care costs. Health insurance should be selected carefully to make sure that you are getting adequate protection for your needs. This brochure lists most types of health insurance. Your eligibility will vary from company to company, and may be determined by such things as your age, gender, health status and occupation. The HMO is an alternative to traditional health insurance because it provides actual services rather than just reimbursement for health care expenses. Act of 1996, limits insurers' power to deny or delay claims; reduces your chances of losing existing coverage; makes it easier and less risky to switch health plans; and prohibits insurance discrimination based on health problems. If you are leaving a fully insured group or individual health plan, you may be able to buy a health policy from the company that provided your prior coverage. Under Arizona law, if an individual or group health policy provides family coverage, newborns, adopted children and children placed for adoption are automatically covered under the parents' fully insured health policy for the first 31 days. If you have a serious or chronic health condition, your individual health insurance premiums may be high. The key purpose of the CPS ASEC is to provide timely and detailed estimates of income, poverty, and health insurance coverage and to measure change for those estimates at both the national and state level. . Longitudinal measures of income, poverty, and health insurance coverage that are based on following the same people over time are avail-able from the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP). The CPS ASEC asks about health insurance coverage in the previous calen-dar year. Compared with other national surveys, the CPS ASEC esti-mate of the number of people without health insurance more closely approximates the number of people who were uninsured at a specific point in time during the year than the number of people uninsured for the entire year. You have the right to make health care decisions about the medical care you receive. .
