The psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner is a provider of direct mental health care services. Within this role, the psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner synthesizes theoretical, scientific, and clinical knowledge for the assessment and management of both health and illness states. These competencies describe the role of the psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner in assessing all aspects of the patient's health status, including health promotion, health protection, and disease prevention.
