PCR -- Polymerase Chain Reaction used to detect the presence
of the HCV virus and determine the viral load of the individual.
Patient liver enzymes (ALT) must be greater than seven times the upper
limit of normal.
Cases in these categories may or may not have an acute onset of illness
or symptoms and may or may not have elevated liver enzyme test results.
Is this an acute case or is this a chronic hepatitis C infection?
1. For confirmed acute hepatitis C cases, complete a "DHSS Disease
Case Report" form (CD-1) and CDC's "Viral Hepatitis Case Report"
form.
2. For confirmed, probable and suspect chronic hepatitis C cases, submit
a completed CD-1 and/or a legible lab report with patient's address.

It is recommended that children with an increased risk of infection
be vaccinated against hepatitis B.
The disease can pass entirely unnoticed or result in serious or even life-threatening
symptoms.
The younger the individual at the time of infection, the greater the risk
of chronic illness.
This means that if the vaccination is administered very early after the
time of infection, it can prevent the development of the disease and stop
the person becoming a carrier of it.
Adoptive children and other people moving here from countries where chronic
hepatitis B is common are offered health checks.
The protection lasts a long time, probably a lifetime.

In short, the liver can suffer considerable damage and still
function quite well.
However, when talking to patients chronically infected with HCV, common
symptoms are frequently reported.
Results of a study published in Hepatology stated that more than 70% of
HCV positive patients reported at least one complaint.1 The following
article identifies some of the most common symptoms reported by patients
with chronic HCV infection, along with some tips for managing symptoms.
Self-diagnosis can prevent one from obtaining health care; it can also
be a prescription for disaster.
If you take other prescription or over the counter medications, ask your
doctor about the safety of taking these along with acetaminophen.
If you are experiencing "brain fog," try to analyze your situation.

To better understand this requirement, we used purified recombinant
dAg-S and HDV RNA synthesized in vitro to assemble high-molecular-weight
ribonucleoprotein (RNP) structures.
After transfection of these RNPs into human cells, we detected HDV genome
replication, as assayed by Northern analysis or immunofluorescence microscopy.
Initial studies with E. coli demonstrated poor expression of dAg-S from
the wild-type sequence.
Experiments were performed to determine whether the purified dAg-S could
interact in vitro with HDV RNA.

We assessed the separate and combined effects of hepatitis
B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and aflatoxin in causing hepatocellular
carcinoma (HCC) in Qidong, China.
A consecutive series of 181 pathologic-diagnosed HCC cases were studied
for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), anti-HBc, HBV X gene sequence,
anti-HCV, the 249ser-p53 mutation, and chronic hepatitis pathology.
The prevalence of anti-HCV in the general male population of Qidong was
estimated to be 1.1% (3/287).
In contrast, the prevalence of HBsAg in male HCC cases in Qidong was found
to be 95% (137/144), and its prevalence in the general male population
was 15.7% (45/287).

Causes, incidence, and risk factors of Hepatitis C Hepatitis
C (HCV, non-A/non-B hepatitis) - An inflammation of the liver caused by
the hepatitis C virus.
The clinical burden of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is expected
to increase over the next 2-3 decades as a large cohort of patients infected
between the 1960s and 1980s, primarily as a result of recreational drug
use, develops progressive liver disease.
A 2000 survey of medical care in 40 rural counties conducted by Unicef
and the Chinese Health Ministry found that 47 to 65 percent of children
had received injections as treatment for their last cold.
Even before identification of HCV, interferon-alfa (IFN-alfa) had been
evaluated as a potential therapy for what had been called chronic non-A,
non-B hepatitis.

Adults at risk for hepatitis B virus infection include people
who have more than one partner, men who have with other men, injection
drug users, health care workers, and others who might be exposed to infected
blood or body fluids.
People should get 3 doses of hepatitis B vaccine.
If you miss a dose or get behind schedule, get the next dose as soon as
you can.
People should not get hepatitis B vaccine if they have ever had a life-threatening
allergic reaction to baker's yeast (the kind used for making bread) or
to a previous dose of hepatitis B vaccine.

The hepatitis database contains the results of laboratory examinations
taken on the patients of hepatitis B and C during 1982-2001, and recently
was given to challenge data mining research.
The approach is based on temporal abstraction and the visual data mining
system D2MS.
2. Determine the normal region of each episode by given thresholds in
the original dataset.
One significant issue is to find complex temporal abstraction relating
to such domain knowledge.

HepA
"Hepatitis" means inflammation or disease of the
liver.
Anyone who has not had hepatitis A before can get hepatitis A, if exposed
to the virus.
What are the symptoms of hepatitis A?
The first symptoms would include fever, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting,
tiredness, diarrhea or constipation, abdominal pain, and just "not
feeling well".
For the disease to be spread to another person, the hepatitis A virus
must enter the mouth of a person that has not had hepatitis A before.
The first symptoms usually appear about 1 month after a person is exposed
to the hepatitis A virus.
However, the disease can develop anytime between 2 to 6 weeks after infection.

Phase I trial -- This is the first clinical trial for studying
an experimental drug or treatment in humans.
Phase I trials are usually small (10-100 people) and are used to determine
safety and the best dose for a drug.
Phase III trial -- Phase III trials are conducted to find out how well
a drug or therapy works compared to standard treatment or no treatment.
Modality -- a form of therapy; usually refers to physical forms of therapy
such as acupuncture, massage, chiropractic adjustments, etc.
Symptom -- any subjective change (something experienced by the patient)
that may indicate a disease process such as fatigue, pain, thirst, etc.

I understand that due to my occupational exposure to blood
or other potentially infectious materials, I may be at risk of acquiring
hepatitis B (HBV) infection.
I have been given the opportunity to be vaccinated with the hepatitis
B vaccine at no charge to myself.
I understand that by declining this vaccine, I continue to be at risk
of acquiring hepatitis B, a serious disease.
If, in the future, I continue to have occupational exposure to blood or
other potentially infectious materials and I want to be vaccinated with
hepatitis B vaccine, I can receive the vaccination series at no charge
to me.

D1.PDF The Board of Directors believes "that every child within
district boundaries, whatever his or her ability, school neighborhood,
social membership, or any other variable, should have an equal chance
to benefit from the best educational program we can provide" (District
4J Philosophy of Education, adopted May 19, 1982).
It is the belief of the board that this statement applies to all students
including those few who may have AIDS1, be HIV2 positive, or have Hepatitis
B. The Board of Directors takes seriously its responsibility to provide
a safe and healthy environment for students, employees, and patrons.
All available evidence indicates that there is no established risk of
the casual person-to-person transmission of HIV within the school or work
setting.

Patients on chronic hemodialysis are at high risk of infection
by hepatitis C virus (HCV).
The screening of blood donations and the decline in the number of blood
transfusions after the introduction of erythropoietin for treatment of
renal anemia have led to a decrease in the spread of HCV in hemodialysis
units.
Recently, nosocomial transmission has been recognized as the major factor
in the spread of HCV.
We carried out a study to determine the prevalence of HCV infection in
our hemodialysis unit and to evaluate the impact of patient isolation
and use of dedicated dialysis machines for anti-HCV-positive patients
on the spread of HCV infection.

You could get hepatitis C by n Sharing drug needles.
If you had a blood transfusion or organ transplant before 1992, ask a
doctor to test you for hepatitis C.
