Proper identification of edible flowers is important.
For best flavor, use flowers at their peak.
Edible petals or entire flowers can be eaten.
However, remove stems, anthers and pistils because they may be bitter (Figure 1).

Studies at Annamalai University during 1996 revealed that the allelopathic potential of an Indian medicinal herb Coleus amboinicus could be exploited for bio-control of water hyacinth.
Considering the various safety aspects of water use, biological control suggested to suit situations with few introduced and aggressive weeds dominating large areas (Andres 1977), becomes preferable.
In the second stage experiment, the same plant materials were sprayed over foliage of water hyacinth through a hand compression sprayer fitted with a flood jet nozzle using 500 l ha -1 of water, and compared for their bioefficacy.
In the third stage experiment, the same plant materials were again tried by mixing with water supporting water hyacinth, but with a reduced dose of 12.5 g l -1.
healing Gardens Slide
Gardens help us reestablish our connection with the natural world and with all of its creatures---the birds and the butterflies, the earthworms and the bees.
Gardens nourish our souls and our minds, as well as provide the plants and fruits that will nourish our bodies.
When a single garden incorporates all these elements, it is often called a "healing" garden.
But beyond the medicinal benefits that healing gardens provide, is their ability to nurture us in other ways.
Gardens and the act of gardening force us to slow down and to reconnect with nature in a way that enriches our daily life.
summary
The focus of most of these studies was to examine the use of Mayapple (Podophyllum peltatum) as a specialty crop and to test its potential for establishment in field and greenhouse plantings.
Preliminary data from a propagation study indicated that two-node propagules (rhizome segments with one terminal node and one dormant node) planted in spring emerged earlier and produced greater total leaf area, leaf size, and plant height than other propagule types or when planted in the fall.
Treatments will include two types of organic mulches (wheat straw or pine bark), two mulch thickness (3 or 6 in), and two planting depths (0 or 2 in).
Another Mayapple study was established to investigate the effect of sunlight exclusion on leaf biomass production and podophyllotoxin content.
Indorubin_Nature_cell_bio_99 http://www.sb-roscoff.fr/Phyto/Reprints/Indorubin_Nature_cell_bio_99.pdf
Indirubin is the active ingredient of Danggui Longhui Wan, a mixture of plants that is used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat chronic diseases.
The crystal structure of CDK2 in complex with indirubin derivatives shows that indirubin interacts with the kinase's ATP-binding site through van der Waals interactions and three hydrogen bonds.
Cell counts (from two independent experiments) are expressed as a percentage of the number of cells at time 0.
We attribute this effect to inhibition of CDK2 rather than of CDK4--cyclin D (see Table 1), but it could also be an indirect effect (for example, induction of cellular CDK inhibitors such as those induced by DNA damage, or downregulation of cyclin D, whose induction probably involves several protein kinases).

Students who earn their acupuncture degrees at Bastyr University can benefit not only from study with faculty members who have trained at the best medical schools in China, but also from the opportunity to study in China themselves.
After seeing a significant number of patients each day with acute and chronic health concerns, they attend lectures in the afternoon.
In order to apply for an internship, students must obtain verified graduation from a DPD program and a bachelor of science degree.
This seminar offered Bastyr graduate students a chance to integrate the creative arts and art therapy into their clinical work.

The major difference between Cinchona and Artemisia is the speed with which the active principle of the latter, artemisinin, was isolated, synthesised and then modified to produce effective therapeutic entities, largely due to the efficiency of modern chemical techniques.
Malaria is common in south-west China where it is known as Nue Ji, foul weather disease.
First, artemisinin compounds could be used as an additional tool to control schistosomiasis in areas where malaria is not endemic, for example, Brazil, Venezuela and Egypt.
Second, it could be used as a shortterm prophylaxis for travellers; canal cleaners in the Sudan; and in emergency situations such as flooding.

Chinese medicine development has been growing rapidly and it begins to draw significant attention globally.
A system for registering Chinese medicine practitioners is being set up and a Chinese medicine port for medicine manufacturing and research is being investigated.
Although it has drawn significant attention, information about Chinese medicine is not yet widely available on the Internet and searching for Chinese medicine information is extremely difficult.
In this paper, we are presenting the XML metadata design for Chinese medicine.
The system encompasses the register server, information servers, search engine, and client programs developed to browse and search XML documents available at distributed Chinese medicine digital libraries.
