Herbs
They will grow in ordinary garden soil in full sun. Herb plants can be grown with little more than occasional watering and trimming.
Using natural herbs on food is a delicious way to flavor food without increasing your sodium intake.
THYMES - A group of tender perennials that like to grow in full sun in a light, well-drained soil.
Herbs that can be started from seed or readily purchased as a potted plant from garden centers.
DILL - The tasty foliage and seeds make flavorful pickles, also good in breads, dips, fish and cottage cheese.
The best time to harvest fresh herb foliage is just prior to blooming.

Herbs are plants used for cooking, medicinal, and decorative purposes.
Most herbs prefer sunshine and dry, sandy, well-drained soil.
Some perennials such as scented geraniums, marjoram, rosemary, and shallot are not hardy enough to withstand Wyoming winters.
These herbs should be treated as annuals or grown in pots that can be easily moved to frostfree areas during the winter.
If there is enough space, grow seedlings indoors before spring transplanting.
A 6-inch spacing is usually enough for most herbs.
However, space oregano plants 18 inches apart, coriander 8 inches apart, and garden cress 10 inches apart.

Such a choice should be demanded by the consumer.
NGOs and a number of governments are working to improve standards and the legal environment for the quality and safety of products, and to ensure the sustainability of source material.
Ethical purchase requires customers to be well-informed and often prepared to pay a higher price.
Even so, reputable and ethical manufacturers generally have to admit that they cannot guarantee that all their sources of medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) are sustainable.
Therefore, not all products of a range will necessarily be certified or guaranteed to be sustainably produced (see devil's claw story; Fact sheet 3: Use of plants as medicine around the world).

GENERAL BACKGROUND The former Soviet Union covers 1/6 of the earth's landmass and encompasses an extremely broad range of plant diversity.
As part of a collaborative project between Rutgers University and Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, over 100 species of medicinal plants were collected from these two independent nations of Central Asia and brought in the US for evaluation.
OBJECTIVES In Spring 2001, a subset of this species collection was planted at the field of Snyder Research and Extension Farm Rutgers University, New Jersey.

Permaculture is a philosophy of positivity formulated as a response to the depredations being suffered by the earth at the hands of humankind.
An integrated permaculture system will ideally provide for all its energy needs from within the system, using the outputs and/or behaviours of one element to provide for the needs of other elements.
For example, chickens can provide not only meat and eggs, but also, if kept in a greenhouse, night heat and carbon dioxide for plants; weeding, pest-control, and manure for cropland and orchards; nitrogenrich feathers for compost.
Permaculture was first proposed in 1975 by Bill Mollison, based on his observations of Aboriginal peoples in Australia and elsewhere, integrated with modern ecological thinking.

The liver performs over 500 functions, including purifying the blood and assisting proper digestion.
The Chinese believe that the liver is the home of the soul, and therefore, the most important organ in the body.
Bupleurum is just one of 12 ingredients, but it is the most important "cooling herb" in Chinese herbology.
It is believed to aid the upward flow of chi, or the body's living force, thereby strengthening the body against stress.
Peony root acts somewhat like red raspberry to nourish the "yin" chi and improve circulation.
Se cree que ayuda el flujo del chi hacia arriba, o la fuerza vital del cuerpo, fortaleciendo así al cuerpo contra el estrés.

Building and Stevens Way, was established in 1911 by the University of Washington Pharmacy Department.
It originally covered one and one-half acres.
From 1915 to sometime in the1940s it grew in size to eight acres.
As the university has grown the gardens have been sacrificed to construct new buildings and pave new roads.
The herbs grown in the garden are part of an "index seminum," in which organizations exchange seeds.
The garden was cast aside when the School of Pharmacy and the drug industry turned their effors to creating synthetic drugs instead of extracting them from herbs.
The School of Pharmacy turned over control of the garden to the School of Botany.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT to classify herbs and nutritional food supplements as drugs rather than food.
HEALTH ACTION NETWORK to hear Dr. Zoltan
The evening was both enlightening and frightening, as we are in imminent danger of losing our freedom of choice in the market place of vitamins and herbs, both medicinal and otherwise.
Working with multinational drug companies, the committee claims that its lofty purpose is to create a set of international standards to guide the world's growing food industry, and to protect the health of consumers.
This is a blatant attempt by powerful drug companies to reduce competition, and it would certainly create an unfair business environment in which only the wealthy drug companies can pay the proposed government licence fees for dispensing natural remedies.

Try giving your plants energy by beaming good thoughts and energy at them every time you visit them.
Set up a voltage interrupt socket and be sure the electrical wiring will handle the lamps your going to use.
Shelf gardening is sometimes referred to as Sea of Green, because many plants are grown close together, creating a green canopy of tops that are grown and matured quickly, and the next crop is started and growing concurrently in a separate area of continuous light.
For every 500 watts of continuous use, you use about $20 a month in electricity, so it is evident that a lamp taking half the power to output the same lumens (or twice the lumens at the same power level) will pay for itself in a year or so, and from then on, continuous savings will be reaped.
