The growing range of travel markets, products, and destinations, as well as the increasingly difficult task of finding and communicating with distinct market segments indicates that the Internet offers a potentially valuable tool for marketing tourism. The primary aim of the study was to evaluate current RTA use of the Internet as an effective regional destination marketing tool. Nineteen of the 45 respondents (42.2%) indicated that they had an Internet site. The study suggests a positive outlook for Australian destination marketing on the Internet. E-mail is the most obvious example of increasing interactivity between the organisation and customers, and as such it is an essential component in web site design. Most RTAs had an e-mail account, with the address either listed (9) or hyperlinked (11).
