TURKISH TELEVISION HUGO the Troll fi rmly states his popularity in Turkey as Turkish television extends the contract with his inventors the Danish television and games developer ITE for another 12 months. Since his early debut in Turkey in 1993 HUGO the Troll has been a tremendous success. The Turkish children love his entertaining show and witty remarks, not to mention the funny dialogue be-tween HUGO and the host Tolga Gariboglu. The extension of the contract between ITE and Konsensus TV to produce the HUGO TV Show for another 12 months means HUGO can celebrate his 13th year in Turkey. HUGO games on various formats are a great success distributed through Aral and downloads of both java games and wallpapers for mobile phones has also become a big hit with the Turkish children. ITE (Interactive Television Entertainment ApS) is the largest multi-platform game developer and publisher in Denmark. In 1990 ITE launched the interactive television show "Hugo the TV Troll" in Denmark

Specification for the 4th Generation of ELSE Experimental Software

The ELSE Centre, based at University College London, is one of the UK's leading research centres on game theory and experimental economics. These include several incarnations of the highly publicised 3G Spectrum Auctions, several experiments on multiunit auctions for BG Storage and Transco and various academic studies on auctioning and game theory. This approach to implementation had several obvious limitations and in 1999 I made the decision to implement all future experiments of the centre in Java. Amongst the advantages of the new approach were the following; Java allows portability - code developed for the laboratory could be freely distributed to other research centres and clients without the requirement for the recipient to have particular hardware or software systems. In principle the Java classes will run on several existing architectures and operating systems with a minimal set up overhead. The player interface displays essential information to the

Developed by more than 50 wireless industry leaders worldwide to extend the base collection of Java technologies for mobile devices, MIDP 2.0 supports new and enhanced gaming, graphics, video, audio, security, and many other features for mobile devices such as cell phones and personal digital assistants. This will directly translate into new revenue opportunities for industry participants and give further impetus to Java's growth as a de facto standard for wireless data services." "As specification lead for the MIDP development process, Motorola has been happy to collaborate with other industry leaders to bring Java technology for mobile devices to maturity," said Philip Gilchrist, vice president of Global Standards and Technical Asset Management, Motorola's Personal Communications Sector. " Motorola believes MIDP 2.0 enhances Java's position as the platform for the development of exciting and differentiating services and applications for the mobile

Researches on Games in Education have shown that games motivate the learners to try to develop their knowledge whilst they perform in a pleasant virtual world in order to achieve the goals proposed. Educational electronic games are games that encourage the growth of logic and the acquisition of skills and knowledge with a pleasant way [1]. Researches for the use of games in education [2] have proved that Games constitute a source that motivates the learners to try and to develop their knowledge, while they put it into practice. By combining educational game design with some of the features of the Intelligent Tutoring Systems design, could lead us one step towards to the Intelligent Educational Gaming Systems (IEGS) design, providing better gaming and learning experience. The categorization of the game world serves more as a classification of the educational objectives in each stage of the game. We propose a game world consisting of many different stages as opposite

Interactive Programming In Java

This chapter is supplemented by a reference chart on the syntax and semantics of Java interfaces. In this chapter, we will learn how a Java interface specifies the behavior of objects and see how to read an interface definition to understand what the objects of that interface type can do. The Java language defines the rules for setting out that contract, including what can and can't be specified by it. There may also be things that are part of the general promise -- such as how long a particular request might take to answer or the actual appearance of a component on the computer screen -- that can't be specified in a Java interface. If I one day exchange my original counting object for a more sophisticated one that can be reset before each game (or each time I rewrite my web page), your code should continue to work. In Java, an interface is a collection of method signatures, each of which describes a particular behavior that is part of an object's contract. The type can be

In this short paper, we present a location aware mobile game which lets users play a paper chase game on a mobile device. The achievements of recent years in the field of mobile networks and ubiquitous computing allow technologies like Internet, Java, and hypermedia to meet in a new kind of ap-plication that employs distribution, wireless network, loca-tion, movement, and hypermedia -- mobile location-aware hypermedia games. In our hypermedia game, a quite old and favorite game idea meets a location-aware mobile inter-active and networked scenario. The term mobile game typically stands for an isolated interactive game on a mobile device which does not use lo-cation and movement of the player. The paper chase game we developed distinguishes three types of participants: the editor of the game, the person(s) monitoring the game, and the players. Once the game is started, the players of the game receive the map with the checkpoints and an indicated start-ing point of the game.

In the area of game design, you typically get the basic feel by playing games on the target platform (say, a game console or a WAP phone). This is the core of mobile gamer behavior: mobile gaming remedies moments of boredom when there's no access to better gaming devices. The result is a completely different pattern of playing - whereas traditional gaming consists of few long sessions, mobile gaming is all about multiple short sessions. Whenever the player selects a link, the game logic decides whether the following room contains a treasure or a monster before sending the new game situation to the player's phone. The categorization of casual and hardcore gamers is an ongoing debate in the game industry. On the one hand, there are more casual gamers but then again hardcore gamers tend to spend more money on games. THOSE PRECIOUS MOMENTS Since the entry cost of a game is very low, people are often willing to give your game a try. Many CD ROM games are constructed

  1. You are the chief programmer for a team developing a QuakeTM-like game. You will need to have several kinds of monsters for the game, each of which must know how to render itself and determine its own actions based on the player's position in the game. Each class of monster will also have a value (the number of points the player gains from killing it). How would you ensure that each programmer implementing a monster would imple-ment the necessary methods? Write a Java code fragment to illustrate. 2. As part of designing the same new game, you realize that you will have many di erent sort of items in the game: some will be containers (things can be put inside them); some can be operated on (a single operation can be performed on them to change their state or the state of some other part of the game in some way); some will permit closer examination, allowing more detail to be observed (for example, reading a map or studying enscriptions on a box). How would you design
