Programming ArcIMS ActiveX connector with ASP for different browsers/platforms

Abstract: The Biological Resources Research Center is developing a web-accessible Biodiversity Atlas for Nevada and the Great Basin. We want to present as rich a cartographic experience as possible for the wildest number of users. This necessarily precludes the use of an out-of-box ArcIMS solution, since not all browsers/platforms (particularly Macintosh browsers) will reliably display pages generated by the ArcIMS. We are developing a solution using ASP and JavaScript for ArcIMS that is accessible to all standard Wintel and Macintosh browsers providing much better performance and wider accessibility to the standard GIS data formats through SDE. We will discuss methods, problems and solutions. 1. Introduction It is not difficult to create an IMS application using ArcIMS Designer, but the application that it creates makes extensive use of JavaScript. All requests made to the ArcIMS server are made in XML, which is built on the client side using JavaScript. For instance, for

IxVerify is a tool that assesses enterprise application performance through a network. Enterprise application users and developers as well as manufacturers of network equipment use IxVerify to measure and characterize the performance of large applications that run across a diverse set of network equipment and architectures. IxVerify emulates enterprise application users. Models of enterprise users are created using IxVerify's Visual Agenda Authoring Tool and expressed in the industry-standard IxVerify JavaScript language. Each port of these Load Modules has a CPU running the Linux operating system with a standards compliant TCP/IP protocol stack, and each port is capable of emulating thousands of independent virtual users. By running numerous JavaScript models simultaneously, IxVerify can emulate a large number of users executing a wide variety of applications. Different protocols may also be mixed within the same JavaScript model, allowing for the emulation of users

WebCT (Web Course Tools) is a web-based course management system that provides an integrated set of tools for both developing and delivering courses. It allows your instructor to organize and distribute course content in a secure environment (syllabi, announcements, lecture notes, grades, etc.) Interactive tools (e.g. discussions, chat, online assessments, etc.) also facilitate communication between your instructor and yourself, as well as encouraging communication and collaboration amongst students. The web browser you use to connect to WebCT is important. You'll also need to ensure your browser is properly configured, as outlined below. WebCT supports Netscape 6.2 and later, as well as Internet Explorer 5.0 and later (excluding 5.5 Service Pack 1). Earlier versions are not supported as they do not implement Java and JavaScript properly. For best results, we recommend: Page 1 PC users: Netscape 7.1 or Internet Explorer 6 Mac OS 9 users: Internet Explorer 5.1 Mac OS X users:

[AcroTips] 6020 - Automating The Lights, Camera, Action

To accomplish such a feat we need to use a little bit of Javascript that will whip round each page in the PDF and then add the appropriate Page Action Javascript. Add the Javascript to the Page Action for each Page All that's required is the following lines of code: var pageCount = this.numPages; for(var x = 0;x<pageCount;x++) { setPageAction(x,"Open", "this.zoom = 100;"); } Recently I got caught by creating a variable called `numPages' which is of course already in use by Acrobat/Javascript - no error was raised so it took a while before I cottoned on ;) To make this script truly useful we can create a new Batch Sequence that can run this javascript against loads of PDF fi les at once. We need to scroll down the list and fi nd the sequence named: `Execute Javascript', once you've clicked `Add' double click the entry on the Right hand panel which will display the Script window. Copy and Paste the Javascript from below(or from the optional code below) into the Window. Optional:

Cohen and Joseph Issi Cohen is an incredibly huge book covering every teeny weensy variable associated with each of the HTML, CSS and JavaScript languages. Every HTML attribute, element or event, every CSS behavior, filter or style, every JavaScript method, object or property, no doubt, is listed here. And if it isn't, the Updates link listed above will probably have it. Before you begin, it would be a really good idea to have a working knowledge of Dynamic HTML (DHTML) or this book may not make a whole lot of sense. Part 1 consists of 4 short chapter appetizers (about 60 pages) dealing with fundamentals of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Object-Oriented Programming (Document Object Model and Node Tree structure in JavaScript, Events and Event handlers and JavaScript basics. Part 2 gives the comprehensive reference full-course meal, consisting of Chapters 5 through 15. That is followed by a short index of the web technology triad of HTML, CSS and JavaScript listings.

[1997] Design Considerations In Migrating an Obstetrics Clinical Record to the Web

Because of these constraints, we designed a component based software architecture that could be delivered over the web through a set of HTML pages, and that could mimic a stand-alone application though the interaction of Javascript with a HTML browser. The results of the queries are either returned as combined Javascript display functions and data (i), or the raw data is `piped' through Javascript to form data objects. This was composed of sets of Javascript objects and routines and was designed to provide a local repository of persistent data objects. Javascript was used to perform on-screen calculations and to guide data input and validation. The middle layer, represented by Cold Fusion scripts and Javascript objects, consisted of combinations of output templates and SQL statements. These variables can be captured by Javascript arrays, or objects, and then manipulated in the browser environment through the use of display functions that write HTML directly

A Dynamic SAS/IntrNet Example with Help of ASP and JavaScript

In programming for interactive SASŪ Internet services, there are two important issues that programmers have to deal with. One is dynamically passing the parameters from web page to SAS program; anther is the validation of the input values. By taking a practical example of an interactive SAS/IntrNet application, the Online Clinical Trial Randomization List Generator, we demonstrate the methods and skills of how to use SAS macro programs to handle the parameter passing dynamically, and how to integrate ASP and JavaScript with SAS/IntrNet tasks to make the programming This article uses an example to demonstrate how to build an efficient SAS/IntrNet application with help of ASP and JavaScript. ASP and JavaScript Code Point Since those two web pages have the dynamic contents and are required to validate some values, ASP and JavaScript can offer good help here. JavaScript is a common client side program. ASP and JavaScript can work hand in hand to make programmer's

Georeferencing to the NHD: Moving from ArcView to ArcIMS

Using desktop tools, EPA is assisting states that are currently linking surface water information to the NHD. To expand the use and increase the ease of development and deployment of these georeferencing tools, EPA is developing web-based ArcIMS applications to duplicate some of the same functionality as that of the desktop georeferencing applications. In general, the interface consists of a combination of HTML frames and JavaScript. JavaScript code is used behind the tools either to generate Arc Extensible Markup Language (ArcXML) request strings for ArcIMS to process or to populate and submit hidden HTML forms to Microsoft's Active Server Pages (ASP) code to run some server-side middle tier or database tier code. To meet these requirements, client-side JavaScript arrays were added to the interface code to hold lists of This is all done in the client-side JavaScript by customizing the refresh map ArcXML request. JavaScript in the application interface code fills

Your answers to Section A and Section B should be written in separate answer books. All questions carry equal marks. The distribution of marks for each question is indicated. IMPORTANT NOTE It is essential that you write your registration number on the front of each answer book. Even though both languages are commonly used in a web context, there is a fundamental difference between PHP and JavaScript. PHP is a server side scripting language whereas JavaScript is a client side scripting language. Explain in some detail how a web page which contains both PHP and JavaScript code gets executed and finally displayed on a web browser. Consider the following (incomplete) extract of a web page with some JavaScript code.
