Web Implementation Team MINUTES

It has come to our attention that the way spammers get e-mail addresses is by "scraping" a Web site for all "mailto" links listed. The team has decided that as a way to keep Hamline e-mail addresses from being collected, we will not use "mailto" links on the Hamline Web site any longer. We will now use a javascript that will send the mail to a selected person. Ron will make the change so all mailto links will automatically change to this javascript format, but those of you maintaining sites will need to go in and manually change the text for any full e-mail addresses that you list (for example, if your link to my e-mail address is listed on the Web as: mgriffithwells01@hamline.edu, you will need to change it and either have the link say "e-mail" and that link will have the javascript behind it to make it mail, or have the link say "send e-mail to Mary Ellen Griffith"). For any new e-mail addresses that you enter, please use this new format. The javascript is listed

LND610 - Dev Dynamic Web Apps with Lotus Domino 6

This course extends participants' Domino application development skills by teaching them how to use the Domino tools to design and develop dynamic Web applications. Participants learn how to efficiently use Domino fields and page lay out design elements in the Web pages. They see how to apply programming languages, such as JavaScript and Java. Participants do not need to know how to program in these languages to acquire an understanding of how and where to apply the programming capabilities to the best advantage. The also shows participants how to use XML and XSL to integrate data from enterprise solutions. Finally, this course covers security topics specific to the Domino web environment. AUDIENCE Domino Application developers who will use Domino tools to design and develop dynamic web applications. PREREQUISITES

"Dynamic HTML," incorporated into the new browsers, joins plug-ins, Web forms, Java applets, and JavaScript as options for Web interactivity. JavaScript Java works essentially the same way as plug-ins. The most familiar approach is JavaScript. JavaScript is a scripting language created by Netscape in 1995, which has been incorporated into their Web browsers since then (versions 2, 3, 4, and Communicator). It shares some basic syntax with Java, but JavaScript is not a stand-alone programming language -- it functions only within a Web browser. With each new version of their Web browser, Netscape has increased the functionality of JavaScript to the point that it can be used today to create dynamic interactions in a Web page. JavaScript can be used to generate actions in response to mouse clicks or even to cursor movements. One of the most useful attributes of JavaScript is the ability to work with form elements on a page such as radio buttons, checkboxes, or

helloworld_class_overview

Image Web Server now comes with a set of pre-defined classes, which can be added to your web pages using JavaScript Include statements. These classes do all the heavy lifting for you in that you structure a simple call to them in your JavaScript and they will: Add the control into your page reliably and painlessly Structure the control correctly for all the supported browser versions Add in the Java Applet if you set a single line cookie variable Link the controls via the callbacks that you define. What was the older technique and why is it now deprecated? Previous example pages used embedded object tags that you had to hard code into the HTML pages for the Toolbar, the LayeredView Control(s), and the ProgressBar. These objects were then attached using the .attach() method of the Control to attach the Toolbar and ProgressBar objects to the LayeredView Control object in your JavaScript code. For this reason we no longer recommend using the .attach() method in your

The Thunderstone Search Appliance is the fastest and easiest way to add high quality search results to your web site, whether it is an external internet site or internal intranet site. The Appliance comes completely pre-configured. Simply plug it in and go. Of course when your needs change you can change the configuration at that time. Integration The Appliance can serve search results directly to the user, using our predefined templates with your look and feel added. Optionally you can use XSL to customize the user interface completely, or integrate it into your portal using web services, submitting a request via HTTP and getting XML results. Performance It indexes and follows links generated by JavaScript, Flash and more than 100 other file formats you might have on your intranet.

It was simply downloaded from some website providing free JavaScript source codes.

New JavaScript Command for DHTML Floating Banners

The file size for the Flash swf must be within 30k. File sizes above 30k are subjected to approval on case-to-case basis. Flash must be published as Flash version 5 or below. All VREC DHTML that contain floating animation are restricted to a dimension size of 600x400 only The animation must load immediately and must disappear from the extended area after 5 seconds. Animation must not include any music or sound, unless it is user initiated. The floating animation must not loop but animation within the VREC banner (240x400) can loop. We do not allow overlay of the entire 600x400 area. There will be a default frequency cap of 2 per user for the duration of 8 hours imposed on all DHTML floating ads.

The protocol stack, which is implemented in JavaScript code for the client side and C code for the server side, maintains a persistent, bi-directional communication layer (over TCP/IP) between the server and the connected client, or clients. JavaScript (which should not be confused with Java) is an advanced, object-oriented, scripting language. Most browsers are capable of running programs written in JavaScript. Most browsers make this API available to JavaScript code. JavaScript code, together with the Document Object Model, is sometimes referred to as dynamic HTML or DHTML. JavaScript GUI DHTML makes it possible to implement a rich-client graphical user interface in JavaScript that runs within a browser. Many JavaScript widget libraries exist to make it easier to implement user interfaces. As soon as the HTML and all JavaScript are loaded, JavaScript code starts executing.

Bb6-Browser-Preferences

Most browsers are set to check web pages on a server on the Internet only intermittently. When you go to a URL, often what you see is a version of the page that has been stored on your computer. Setting browser preferences in this manner means that pages can be accessed faster and your institution's connection to the Internet will not be taxed as much. Most of the time, this is the preferred solution because most web pages are changed infrequently. However, pages in course management systems are changed very frequently so browser preferences must be set to check with the server where the web pages reside every time you go to them (this is known as refreshing the disk cache). This is particularly important in order to view the latest messages in your discussions area. Setting Cache Preferences in Internet Explorer If you will be using advanced features such as Chat, you may need to change the Java and JavaScript settings in your browser. These allow you to use and

Resources and Learning More

For general readers (those wonder just what the heck is a T-3 or a FDDI line, anyway?), it's a good resource, although maybe a bit over most beginners' heads. Its bias is towards telco terms and technolo-gies, but it also has pretty in-depth coverage of PC computer software and hardware. Overall, it's a very good resource for someone needing background on the combination of telecom and computer technologies that comprise the Internet. This book is generally only available by mail-order. Shnier, Mitchell Dictionary of DC Hardware & Data Communications Terms O'Reilly and Associates 1996 A great place to start with JavaScript for beginners. Unless you have a lot of time to give, the "in a week" probably won't happen, but the book will guide you expertly through learning and applying JavaScript. Client side JavaScript, DHTML, VBScript, Perl, Java (Applets) Advantage: Does not give access to the web server (better protection from hackers) Disadvantages: Depends on the available power JavaScript is a scripting language for the Internet. JavaScript is interpreted on the client side. The user interacts with these elements and JavaScript provides a reaction to the user's input or action, resulting in meaningful interaction between a web page and a user. JavaScript definitions are embedded within the <head></head> tags in an HTML document. We'll discuss JavaScript here, but keep in mind that people who use FrontPage and design for Internet Explorer use VBScript. What can JavaScript do? Some users choose to disable the JavaScript function on their browsers, which allows them to keep control of browser actions such as keeping extra windows from

The SMG WORLDWIDE uses JavaScript and cookies for greater functionality throughout its site. In order to fully utilize these various functions make sure that your browser is JavaScript enabled and that your JavaScript function is turned on. Also, your browser should be set to accept cookies. step is to make sure that JavaScript is turned on and that cookies are accepted. Follow these steps to ensure that your browser is JavaScript enabled: Select "Edit" and then "Preferences" from the top menu bar. Make sure that there is a check mark next to "Enable JavaScript." If it isn't checked click in the square next to the text "Enable JavaScript." To make sure JavaScript is turned on follow these steps: Select "Tools" and then "Internet Options" from the top menu bar. Select "OK" Once JavaScript is enabled and cookies are accepted you should be able to log onto the SMG WORLDWIDE web site without any complications.

Web_Scripting

JavaScript allows you to create `dynamic, interactive' web pages: web pages that do things in response to what your readers do, without having a separate page for each possible response. In this tutorial, I'm going to cover some of the very basics of using JavaScript in your web pages. I'm going to assume that you know a little bit about HTML, but nothing about programming or JavaScript. JavaScript is a language for scripting web browsers and web servers, although it is seeing other uses as it becomes popular. Java was created by Sun and is designed for complete software applications, while JavaScript was created separately by Netscape Corporation and is designed for modifying (and "scripting") web pages. You can put any URL inside the "src" modifier, as long as it points to a valid JavaScript file. It isn't JavaScript, and the browser would likely get in trouble if it tried to be dynamic with that line. When designing JavaScript for your web pages, remember that not

In this paper, we propose a Web based agent system called MiSpider, which provides intelligent web services on web browsers. MiSpider enables users to use agents on existing browsers. Users can use MiSpider all over the world only to access the Internet. MiSpider con-sists of JavaScript and perl CGI script. In proxy, the sys-tem embeds the JavaScript code to cached original HTML source, and rewrite link destination via proxy. Therefore, we use the XMLHttpRequest[4] object from the JavaScript code when agents send or receive the messages. The system transforms the XML source to JavaScript object. Figure 4: providing information based on user's ac-cess The system tranforms JavaScript object to the XML source and send the XML source to Save CGI. In the figure3 shows an example of the JavaScript object to the XML source transformation.
