PR030925-1http://sheldonconcerthall.org/pr/PR030925-1.pdf The Sheldon Art Galleries presents im+provisos: Compositions in Jazz, October 18, 2003 -- January 3, 2004 in the History of Jazz Gallery. Co-curated by artists Alison Nichols Ferring and Eva Lundsager, the exhibition brings together six artists of national and local acclaim who in their work have been inspired by the jazz idiom. Included are Martin Ball from Ohio, New Yorkers Cora Cohen, Erik Hanson and David Storey, and Jerald Ieans and Barry Leibman from St. Louis. The impetus for this exhibition comes from co-curator and painter Alison Nichols Ferring's own visual exploration of the jazz idiom. The inspiration for his paintings and drawings, like music, employ the elements of chance, tones, rests and rhythms. jazz_120100 Paul Tardif Kevin Maloney - trumpet Lucian Cobb - trombone Bill Morris - bass Will Kitchin - drums Sanctimonious Sam Horace Silver arr. The melody is notated and the alphabet chord symbols indicate which chords are to be used in harmonizing that melody, as well as which tones can be used to create a bass line. To play this tune, you must know how to form C, F, and B-flat major triads. There is no melody on the disk during the third chorus, which requires you to improvise a melody. 2. Prepare to play the major triad chords by forming each chord in turn: F to C to F to Bb to F to C to F. There is a tone in common between the F chord (F-A-C) and the C chord (C-E-G).
