biography The James Birkett/ Rod Sinclair Jazz Guitar Duo was formed in 1997 with the purpose of rediscovering and recreating some of the most influential guitar music recorded in the 1920s and 1930s.
In particular, the duo has been drawn to the acoustic guitar repertoire of jazz and blues artists such as Eddie Lang, Lonnie Johnson, Carl Kress and Django Reinhardt.
The duo has been featured at many of the top jazz venues, recent performances including The Corner House (Newcastle), The Studio: Hartlepool, Newcastle Jazz Festival, Hexham Jazz Festival, Borders Jazz and Blues Festival and Northumbria Guitar Festival.
Apart from his appearances as a guest soloist at jazz venues, he works regularly with his trio, quartet and quintet, undertaking concerts, broadcasts and festivals.

For the second year, Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago has received a Chicago Community Trust Grant for the creation of new works by Chicago-area choreographers and designers, part of the Trust's Excellence in Chicago Dance Initiative.
The program will include a new work partially funded by the second-year grant from The Chicago Community Trust, and Naja, originally choreographed by Richard Arve in 1976 and reconstructed for GGJDC.

Some thought we would be dead by now but JAZZ FOCUS celebrated its fifth birthday in March, 1999 - its first two CDs were released in March, 1994 - and we look forward to celebrating our tenth birthday in 2004.
JAZZ FOCUS is proud to have released one CD under Leroy's leadership (INTEGRITY -JFCD009) and two (ENCOUNTERS - JFCDOO5 and ENCOUNTERS II -JFCD021) on which he is part of a trio with Jessica Williams and Mel Brown.
