Designed for Jazz Studies and Music majors, this course covers the origin, phases and most important performers in the development of jazz. Will be on all information from Bebop to the present, and will include drop-the-needle identification. LISTENING: You must listen to recordings of the jazz masters discussed in class, utilizing the Smithsonian Collection of Classic Jazz and other recordings that will be on reserve in the Music Library, and be able to identify these masters on the Midterm and Final exams.
