The Unicomp PC/5250 keyboard has been designed to address the requirements of mid-range customers who need a 122 key model with both Personal Computer and 5250 terminal capabilities.
While the PC/5250 has been optimized for IBM Client Access, it should also be compatible with any emulation software package that provides a keyboard-mapping program.
Most of the key mapping is standard (between emulation packages) and will require no changes to the system's configuration and set-up (See Figure 2).
All of the "codes" used by the PC/5250 for terminal functions are Personal Computer key codes.
The keyboard-mapping table below illustrates the mapping of the 5250 functions to the 101 key equivalents used by the PC/5250.
VCSKB
1. General information VCSKB is a small keyboard with a serial RS232 interface.
The ESC (escape) and CR (carriage return) keys may be used for controlling menus.
The keyboard conforms to a standard character set, i.e. you may use a PC with a terminal emulation for development and simply replace the PC by the keyboard for target systems.
2. Power supply The keyboard needs two voltages for correct operation: +12V (2 mA max) as main supply voltage and -12V (1 mA max) for the RS232 output driver.
Since the circuit features a low power consumption of less than 30 mW, it may be easily supplied by camera signals.
The entire system must always be considered.
Thus, the accessories such as cables, power supplies, etc., play a significant role.

If you find that one or more of the keys you press in RUMBA for the VAX or RUMBA for UNIX doesn't produce the effect you expect, it may be that there is a mismatch between how the keyboard is mapped in RUMBA software and how the keys are mapped on the host.
If the key does not define a local function then RUMBA will send either a single character or a string of characters to the host.
