KM-Course
To be competitive today, knowledge intensive organizations must assure that they have co-workers with the right competence and skills, and that they make use of their skills.
Knowledge Management (KM) has until recently especially dealt with information management and IT-solutions for knowledge intensive firms and thereof often become an activity associated with IT consultants and software producers.
In each course, theory and practice are mixed, and by working together we provide opportunities for reflection and for alterative perspectives to develop.
This course is provided by researcher from the Viktoria Institute: Jan Ljungberg, PhD, who has discovered remarkable aspects of the Open Source movement.

The 1998 DARPA Intrusion Detection Evaluation showed that the models produced by MADAM ID performed comparably well with the best purely knowledge-engineered systems.
Although our data mining techniques have shown great potentials, it is important recognize the critical roles that domain knowledge, and thus knowledge engineering, play in the process of building ID models.
Inductively (and automatically) learned classification rules are more "general" than the manually encoded rules, because classification programs can analyze a large amount of audit data and extract the most general descriptions about an intrusion, whereas a human expert tends to produce very specific rules because he or she can only examine a limited amount of data.
A critical requirement for the classification rules to be effective is that an appropriate set of features need to be first constructed and included in the audit records.

The recent paradigm shift in the Government's primary health programme was intended to increase the attention given to gynaecological problems and other aspects of women's health.
Some studies of Indian women have found that young girls are generally told nothing about menstruation until their first personal experience of it (for example, George, 1994).
Traditionality was found to be higher among rural girls, and the correlation coefficient with socioeconomic status is -0.2 which is significant at the 95 per cent confidence level.
It seems possible that these items may be related to the likelihood of infections of the genital area, either directly from contact with infection sources, or indirectly through association with bathing and other aspects of personal hygiene.

In this process, this book examines the knowledge management taking into account the three important components of knowledge management namely people, organization and technology.
Considering the complexity of the issues involved in knowledge management practice this book brings forth importance of bringing a synergy between people and technology for its success.
The book is divided into four parts based on the critical questions of knowledge management rising from a socio-technical perspective namely know-why, know-what, know-who and know-how.
Specific factors explored include interaction for effective group dynamics, personality type analysis, use of agent-based modelling and a self-sustaining and regulating culture in organizations.

General crime rates were falling in Memphis, but ual assaults continued to rise.
The IVRP team analyzed data for every homicide in 1997 and 1998 and identified four elements common to approximately 60 percent of them: young men, firearms, drug use and distribution, and groups of chronic offenders known to the police.
At this stage, to enhance the deterrent effects of their interventions, team members send the message out through their criminal justice and community networks to let potential offenders and the larger community know their plans.
For those who continue to break the law, the team then follows through with clear, swift, and certain consequences, as New Haven did in prosecuting the young man mentioned earlier.

200 Word Abstract: Whenever possible, it is preferable to reuse knowledge base content rather than redevelop it.
In this paper, we describe an implementation of an algorithm and methodology for comparing the relevancy of different knowledge bases to a set of problem tickets.
Using distance metrics that have been applied in the field of Text Clustering, we systematically compare the text of the problem domain to the text of each knowledge base.
The sorted problem tickets and g-scores calculated above serve as the basis for our knowledge base evaluation.
Our goal in this step is to approximately determine the percentage of problem tickets that are addressed by a solution.

session, knowledge management, libraries, laboratory, knowledge base, knowledge resources, environment, FrontPage, lab session, Hotel.
This session explores the background, motivations, and definitions of knowledge management (KM) and the intersection of this increasingly popular management trend with the Web revolution and digital knowledge resources.
This session explores how technology and systems enable KM, users, libraries, and librarians to interact with knowledge resources in new and different ways.
This session introduces a real-world case study of KM needs and solutions t hat serves as the basis for a series of hands-on laboratory exercises on Day 2.
Focus will be on the development of a knowledge base for knowledge management materials and upon gaining an understanding of fundamental issues and not upon learning any particular KM system or application.

ICT, teachers, schools, resources, education authorities, support, technicians, management, headteachers, Scottish.
In light of current developments such as the National Grid for Learning (NGfL), and funding for training recently becoming available for teachers and librarians, it is clearly vital to understand teachers' ICT skills and knowledge needs, to discover their priorities for future development and to establish what will encourage teachers to adopt ICT where appropriate in their professional lives as classroom practitioners, as planners and managers and as learners.
· suggest ways of enhancing future design and delivery of self- and staffdevelopment in order to increase and improve the level of ICT use in Scottish schools.
Ready access to ICT is not simply a matter of providing more ICT resources.

The B vitamin folic acid can reduce the occurrence of spina bifida and anencephaly by at least 50% when consumed daily before conception and during early pregnancy.
This report summarizes findings from a survey conducted during January and February 1997 that indicate modest increases since 1995 in knowledge about and consumption of folic acid among U.S. women aged 18--45 years and highlights the need for additional public health efforts to take full advantage of this prevention opportunity.
The proportion of respondents reporting magazines and newspapers as the source of their knowledge about folic acid was similar in 1997 as in 1995.

design, community, knowledge systems, CoPs, CoIs, learning, supporting, collaborator, environments, Fischer.
Complex design problems often cannot be solved by individuals or by homogenous groups.
Communities of interest (CoIs) (defined by their collective concern with the resolution of a problem) bring together stakeholders from different communities of practice (CoP).
Reaching a common understanding between these stakeholders is a major challenge due to the "symmetry of ignorance" caused by their respective cultures and their use of different knowledge systems.
DynaSites serves as the substrate for the EDC's reflection space, and also as a stand-alone knowledge system.
For example, suppose the term, "knowledge system" was defined in DynaGloss, and also appeared in entries (shown cross-hatched in Figure 4) of both Forum A and Forum B. A stakeholder reading the entry in Forum A would see "knowledge system" represented as a link.
