It is recommended that the landscape plan be prepared by a landscape architect, nurseryman, or other professional experienced in landscape design and the installation and care All animals have food preferences and dislikes. People living near deer habitat can use this trait to their advantage in selecting ornamental plants for landscaping. Selection of unpalatable or "deer-resistant" plants will generally eliminate or reduce the problem of browsing damage by deer. This approach is often preferable to construction of high deer fences, which are expensive and not very attractive, or the use of offensive noise and odor repellents. Only poisonous plants are completely deer-proof. Palatability of plants to deer depends on the quality and quantity of other available food. During periods of food shortage, plants normally not eaten by deer will be readily browsed. Palatability also varies with plant age, fertilizer rates, seasonal phenological changes and other factors. In many cases, however, the "lushness" of our yard is "artificially created". We tend to over water, invest in plant species not suited to the prairies, and battle the natural tendency of plants to go dormant in dry conditions. Our efforts result in lots of time and money spent on yard maintenance and weaker less drought tolerant plants. There are other yard and gardening options. To begin, it's important to remember that you live on the prairies and native plant species thrive, even with the lack of moisture, for a reason - they've adapted to the semi-desert climate zone of Okotoks. A simple non-pumped gravity system is appropriate if leaching chambers or box troughs can be located downhill from the building, and maintenance staff is available for regular inspec-tions and filter changes. Where maintenance staff are not expected, pumped systems equipped with automatically backwashed sand filters are most appropriate, though more expensive. These systems, unlike other graywater systems, can be used for drip irri-gation of lawns and require minimal service. .Ensure graywater will not be exposed on the ground surface, AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF ATHENS-CLARKE COUNTY, GEORGIA WITH RESPECT TO ZONING - FENCES; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
