It is stable and takes advantage of a well-designed feature of the Linux/Unix operating system that the Windows operating system doesn't have.
This is the ability to mount another partition as part of the Linux file system.
The technique is simple and relies on the fact that the Linux applications StarOffice and Applixware allow files to be saved with a Windows or DOS text format.
The designation "hda1" is used in the mount command discussed below.
If, for some reason, your Windows partition is located on a different partition, then use that particular designation.
Although Linux and DOS/Windows both use ASCII text characters, Linux and DOS/Windows files are not identical because DOS/Windows and Linux handle end-of-line markers differently.
Enterprise-Java-for-Linux-HOWTO
The CLASSPATH environment variable references all JARs and directories that you will need to compile and run Java programs.
For JDK 1.2.2, you don't need to initially add any JARs to your CLASSPATH.
To confirm that your PATH is correctly set up, check which Java compiler and JVM will be used.
If you are going to try just one Web Server, I suggest you initially try Apache, principally because it comes with most major Linux distributions and may already be installed, and perhaps running, on your system.

The Linux operating system creates a compelling value proposition for securities firms according to a just-released TowerGroup report.
Looking at Linux's market share and how it compares with other operating systems in the North American securities market, TowerGroup estimates that Linux is currently deployed on 7 percent of the total servers.
In other instances, firms have replaced expensive supercomputers with Linux clusters or consolidated Unix servers on virtual clusters running on a single Linux mainframe.
Because Linux was developed with a keen eye on Unix, the two platforms closely resemble each other across several parameters: performance, reliability, manageability, etc.
The particular deployment option that a securities firm chooses is a function of its internal IT architecture, business and technological needs, its objective in adopting Linux, and comfort level with the current state of the system and expected growth in the future.
