Linux client/server configuration can have several points of failure.

VMware for Linux is a software package that enables you to create a virtual computer within your Linux operating system.

The server was on two LANs: one the gigabit network, on which three more servers resided requested services from the Netfinity.

BIOS configuration settings are set at the factory.

Performance of kernel to user space transitions for access to DNS address helper routines when given "implicit" mounts (e.g. "dfs" junctions) How effective is skipping NBT in reducing WINS related denial of service attacks?

The Linux Standards Base which aims at keeping different Linux distributions on the same track launches a certifications program that should boost Linux's presence.

Computer systems evolved by identifying certain repetitive tasks (reading data on a tape, writing data to a disk) and creating an "operating system" (abbreviated as OS) that handled those tasks.

The technique is simple and relies on the fact that the Linux applications StarOffice and Applixware allow files to be saved with a Windows or DOS text format.

security for Linux, today announced a family of Secure Linux Solutions(TM) based on Immunix-secured Linux.

Every once in while you get to hear the litany that 'the command line' is 'out of date', 'arcane' and so on.

In a thin client network, the majority of application processing is carried out at the server rather than by the individual client.

This is not a trial, but a fully functional product, with the same features and the same support, as any other version of the database server.

The Linux installation can be started from a Linux boot diskette.

It is stable and takes advantage of a well-designed feature of the Linux/Unix operating system that the Windows operating system doesn't have.
This is the ability to mount another partition as part of the Linux file system.
The technique is simple and relies on the fact that the Linux applications StarOffice and Applixware allow files to be saved with a Windows or DOS text format.
The designation "hda1" is used in the mount command discussed below.
If, for some reason, your Windows partition is located on a different partition, then use that particular designation.
Although Linux and DOS/Windows both use ASCII text characters, Linux and DOS/Windows files are not identical because DOS/Windows and Linux handle end-of-line markers differently.

The CLASSPATH environment variable references all JARs and directories that you will need to compile and run Java programs.
For JDK 1.2.2, you don't need to initially add any JARs to your CLASSPATH.
To confirm that your PATH is correctly set up, check which Java compiler and JVM will be used.
If you are going to try just one Web Server, I suggest you initially try Apache, principally because it comes with most major Linux distributions and may already be installed, and perhaps running, on your system.
You need the postgresql, postgresql-server, and postgresql-java packages installed to use Java with PostgreSQL.

The Linux operating system creates a compelling value proposition for securities firms according to a just-released TowerGroup report.
Looking at Linux's market share and how it compares with other operating systems in the North American securities market, TowerGroup estimates that Linux is currently deployed on 7 percent of the total servers.
In other instances, firms have replaced expensive supercomputers with Linux clusters or consolidated Unix servers on virtual clusters running on a single Linux mainframe.
Because Linux was developed with a keen eye on Unix, the two platforms closely resemble each other across several parameters: performance, reliability, manageability, etc.
The particular deployment option that a securities firm chooses is a function of its internal IT architecture, business and technological needs, its objective in adopting Linux, and comfort level with the current state of the system and expected growth in the future.
openbench1 http://www.mindcraft.com/whitepapers/openbench1.pdf

Mindcraft, Inc. conducted the performance tests described in this report at its own expense.
the Open Benchmark at ZD Labs in Foster City, California.
We also thank Pankaj Chowdhry and Henry Baltazar, both from PC Week, for overseeing the Open Benchmark.
To address these concerns, Mindcraft conducted a Second Benchmark of Windows NT Server 4.0 and Red Hat Linux 5.2 this time upgraded to the Linux 2.2.6 kernel.
For the Second Benchmark we asked for and received tuning help from leaders of the Linux, Samba, and Apache communities.
The Linux results Mindcraft obtained in Phase 1 and the results Red Hat obtained in Phase 2 are identical (the slight difference is within the normal variations found between runs of identical configurations).

This survey presents the state of embedded Linux as applied to consumer electronics devices, from wristwatches to PDAs to cellular handsets.
We have attempted to address important decision areas for embedded Linux developers, namely sorting through the various kernel variants, distributions, C libraries, and GUI options in creating a coherent software architecture.
The Linux Kernel can be used "AS IS" in embedded systems.
While they call it an embedded distribution, it's basically a Linux kernel package with some utilities (OS loader, tools to construct and deploy kernel and filesystem images) and development process documentation.
MontaVista derives its income in part from sales of its embedded Linux distributions and partly from related professional services and support.

According to developers, some key reasons for this move are Linux networking and the evolving, highly connected nature of next-generation consumer devices.
The open-source OS lets them squeeze every drop of performance out of available central-processing-unit (CPU) and multimedia devices.
In the handheld space, however, the CPU with the most evident embedded-Linux design wins has been Intel's StrongARM.
These requirements fall into four key areas: Access control: For entertainment appliances, access control is comparable to enterprise security.

a very brief introduction Information Technology is currently a major concern of developing countries.
It is a technology vital for development but the cost is high and implementation not easily achieved.
A recent development which is attracting much interest, especially in developing countries, is that of open source software and the Linux operating system in particular.
A large fraction of internet servers use Linux.
Linux systems integrate well into networks of computers running Microsoft Windows.
Applications - there are many applications available for Linux systems.
There are good word processors and spreadsheets for Linux which can read and write formats used by Microsoft Windows equivalents.

Linux, Starch Press, open source, Microsoft, publishers, Workplace, office tasks, Hughes, SSC, OpenOffice, Windows, KDE.
San Francisco, CA---Linux in the Workplace (Linux Journal Press, an imprint of No Starch Press, Inc., 1886411867, 400 pp., $29.95 US/$44.95 Cdn, Oct. 2002) makes Linux and Open Source software accessible.
According to William Pollock, Publisher of No Starch Press, "We've all witnessed the growing discontent among computer users the world over with Microsoft.
Open Source offers that alternative, both in the Linux operating system and in the Open Source office suite, OpenOffice."
Linux in the Workplace was a team effort - written by the staff of Specialized Systems Consultants, Inc. (SSC), publishers of Linux Journal magazine.
According to Pollock, "We think it's important to publish this book because, while we've seen many books about using Linux from a geek standpoint, this is the first to focus on using Linux and the KDE desktop to perform those pesky, everyday office tasks by pointing and clicking, rather than entering commands.
