mourning_monuments

http://shr.aaas.org/transitionaljustice/traumaandtj/mourning_monuments.pdf Because of several well-publicized "apologies" in the political arena, such as German chancellor Willy Brandt's apology to Jewish people for the Holocaust during his 1971 visit to a monument at the former site of a Warsaw ghetto and then-Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev's 1990 apology to Polish people for the World War II Katyn Forest Massacre, apology and forgiveness have become concepts that interest practitioners and scholars dealing with international relations.

The second type of mourning refers to concrete losses, such as losing loved ones, possessions, prestige, or ideals.

G M - Program Description

http://www.archildrens.org/pdf/good_mourning/G M - Program Description.pdf Good Mourning Grief Support Groups are for children and teens who have experienced the death of a family member or friend.

There is no charge for group members as the program is provided at no charge due to the generous support of the Arkansas Children's Hospital Auxiliary, statewide Circle of Friends, and the Harvey and Bernice Jones Foundation.

The group leaders come from different backgrounds including Child Life, Nursing, Pastoral Care, Psychology, and Social Work.

Parents and adult caregivers of children in the Grief Support Groups are invited to participate in an optional adult group.

Because group sharing and bonding will be very important, no new group members may enter the program after the second session.

030216

http://www.virginia.edu/uvaprint/HSC/pdf/030216.pdf Grief is the normal process of reacting to a loss.

Many people report feeling an initial stage of numbness after first learning of a death but there is no order to the grieving process.

These feelings are normal and common reactions to loss.

All cultures have developed ways to cope with death and loss.

Some common ways that can help you cope during this time include: Ask for help and support from family, friends, or a support group, and try to express whatever you are feeling, be it anger, guilt, sadness, or relief Accept that some things, like death are beyond your control Avoid making major decisions until your judgment and perspective return.

"When his/her parent dies, a child finds her/himself in a unique situation because of the special nature of her/his ties to the deceased.

1.Understand death as a reality and recognition and acceptance of the loss (see drawing 1) Individual perception of the loss depends on the inner acceptance of the loss as permanent.

In the school child and adolescent (as in the adult), remembering consists primarily of thinking, feelings, and at times, talking.

From this point of view it is also important and helpful for the child to maintain a personal contact between the sick parent and the child as long as the parent has the ability to communicate his/her feelings.

Grief

If you have a child or work with children, this book would be a valuable addition to your library.

The author's complex profiles of parents resonate with the honesty and authenticity of uncomfortable emotions expressed and shared with others experiencing a similar loss.

Losses from death, divorce, separation, moving, or illness can greatly disturb young people.

This book looks at gender grief, building your relationship after your child dies, how to help each other heal and has a grief chat.

It explains the developmental stages of children's understanding of death and offers useful advice about school programs and the helpful role of children's literature.

April 28 is the annual Day of Mourning, a day when workers' compensation boards across the country join families, workers, employers, unions and government in remembering those who have been killed or seriously injured on the job.

On Friday, April 27th the WCB of Manitoba will fly its flags at half mast and observe a moment of silence to remember those seriously injured or killed on the job and show support for the families left to cope.

A crucial step in reducing the impact of workplace injuries is to return the injured worker back to health and work as soon as possible.

bereavement

http://www.rcpsych.ac.uk/publications/gaskell/bereav/bereavement.pdf Shock is common during the days and weeks immediately following a death.

The numbness of early bereavement may itself be a source of distress and misunderstanding if one wonders, for example, why one cannot cry at the funeral.

Everyone, she said, believes no one wants to talk about suicide, that it's best left undiscussed, that if you don't talk about it, it will be forgotten and will go away.

For her nothing could be further from the truth.

These consider different aspects of grief following the loss of a child, as well as bereavement through particular causes, including suicide.
