With nn, you can read individual articles in newsgroups, respond through electronic mail to authors of articles, remail articles to other users, and post your own articles for local or more widespread distribution.
Once .newsrc exists, you can use a text editor, such as Emacs, to subscribe or unsubscribe to groups.
A colon means that you are subscribed to the group and will see a listing of the group's articles when you enter nn.
Since you will probably only want to see a small number of the 9000+ newsgroups, it is easiest to unsubscribe to all groups by converting all colons to exclamation points.
Sheet-Newsgroup_good_practice

This leaflet gives advice on good working practices when using newsgroups.
Following this advice will enable you to make the best use of the newsgroup system and reduce the risk of interfering with other users of this important communication medium.
Over the years a set of guidelines have evolved to help you get the most out of your use of the news system.
Think carefully before posting to more than one newsgroup.
Keep your signature concise - four lines is a maximum and do not include drawings, pictures, graphics, banners, boxes of characters, multiple blank lines, unprintable characters, or escape sequences.
Usenet
trn, newsgroups, selection, news, Usenet, subscription, newsrc, prompt, command.
This article describes how to read news on Usenet from a TAMU UNIX system.
A "%" represents a command, or shell, prompt and the string "¿ " means press the Return key.
Users are encouraged to consult the APCIS UNIX Help Desk, 12D Zachry, 847-UNIX for further information or suggestions about this document or reading news.
Usenet is divided into newsgroups which are basically special interest groups devoted to a particular discussion.
If this is your first time to use trn it will explain that it is creating your .newsrc file.
GAMEROOM magazine features articles and classifieds for dealers and collectors of all gameroom related items, including jukeboxes.

In the Account name field type 'OTEnet News'.
For your first attempt select OTEnet News from the left category and click Yes to the prompt message.
The Newsgroups will be downloaded onto the computer, (there are over 50,000 newsgroups).
The downloading process will be displayed on the bottom section of Outlook as illustrated below, and will last for a few minutes.
Once they have been downloaded you can find something specific by typing in the Display newsgroups containing field the topic or subject which interests you e.g. books which will display the newsgroups dealing with this subject.
usnet
newsgroups, postings, window, lists, Internet, SUBSCRIPTION, highlight, Microsoft, news.
These are one of the major services offered on the Internet.
This window has a message box which tells you that you are not "subscribed" to any Newsgroups (unless you have), and asks if you want to see a list of Newsgroups.
In the Newsgroups, the word "SUBSCRIPTION" simply means that out of the 30,000 Newsgroups, you have decided that a few of them interest you and you would like to be able to go back to them without having to search the entire list each time you sign on.
I would suggest doing this every couple of weeks just to see if the lists have changed.
pine-as-newsrdr http://wings.buffalo.edu/computing/documentation/unix/jst/pine-as-newsrdr.pdf
newsgroup, articles, news, Pine, folder, posting, mail folders, instructor, composing.
If you are not, please see the CIT document Pine before reading this document.
You own your email in the sense that you control its existence: you can delete it unconditionally, move it from folder to folder, and so forth.
When you read news, you are looking at a temporary copy of the articles as they appear locally to you during a Pine session.
Subscribing or unsubscribing a newsgroup is similar to adding or deleting a mail folder.
Because Pine uses the same .newsrc file as other newsreaders (such as trn), your current subscriptions will carry over from other newsreaders.
outlook_express-newsgroups
newsgroups, download, news, lists, Usenet, postings, Outlook, selecting, keywords.
A newsgroup is a discussion about a particular subject consisting of notes written to a central Internet site and redistributed through Usenet, a worldwide network of news discussion groups.
Newsgroups are organized into subject hierarchies, with the first few letters of the newsgroup name indicating the major subject category and sub-categories represented by a subtopic name.
Some newsgroups are moderated by a designated person who decides which postings to allow or to remove.
When the download is completed, a list of available newsgroups is presented to you.
You will only have to do this exercise once.
You will, of course, have to update the lists occasionally if you want to keep up to date.

At one level, it consists of computers---called news servers---around the world that send Usenet postings back and forth to each other.
Usenet consists of "newsgroups," discussion groups that focus on specific topics.
You can connect to Usenet using newsreader software through U-M's Information Technology Central Services (ITCS) news server (news.itd.umich.edu).
Usenet newsgroups are organized into hierarchies to make it easier to navigate among them.
All postings to a moderated group are sent automatically to the moderators, who then post only those they consider appropriate to the newsgroup.
Before posting to a newsgroup, you should learn some of the basic conventions.
Usenet made FAQs (frequently asked questions) famous.
