peace, required Missing, Japan, students, a-bomb, handout, report, teacher, Lessons, Hiroshima, peace activities, school, assessment, war, video. Students will understand how the Japanese embody the spirit of the term peace. Learning about the changes in Japan following the A-bomb leads to better conceptualization and practice of the term peace. Teacher can ask for pairs or teams of students to: read # 1,2 or 3 listed in materials and prepare a report to be given to the class. 1. Teacher presents: Teacher will give handout of # 4 and 5 listed in materials: peace activities (Handouts A & B) and origami peace crane directions. 1. Write one of the books on the A-bomb (Shin's Tricycle, Sadako and the Thousand Cranes, Hiroshima No Pika) into a skit to perform. 0603 storytime, Club, Mount Laurel, summer reading, children ages, Internet, gardening, friends, kids, sale, Jersey, craft, parents, Movie Critics, Moorestown Area Quilters. The Mount Laurel Library's free Summer Music Series returns for its ninth year with entertainment for people of all ages. This summer the Library is offering its first summer reading program for adults. Prizes are funded by the Friends of the Mount Laurel Library. Children ages 6 and up are invited to learn about beginning gardening and plant their own herb garden! The Friends of the Mount Laurel Library sponsor three major book sales each year---one in the Spring, one in October, and a paperback book sale in February. Our last sale was held from May 1---3, and the tally was $4,300, more than what was made at last year's spring sale! controlsurfaces control surfaces, flaps, students, airplane, drag, lift, tape, wind tunnel, tabs, predictions, compare, mount, wing, airfoil, construction paper. Goal: To understand how a change to the control surface affects lift and drag without changing angle of attack or speed. Discussion topics: control surfaces, control tabs, parts of an airfoil, parts of an airplane, parts of a racecar, lift, drag, AOA and wind speed, pitch, roll and yaw. Explanation: Changes to control surfaces affect the direction of motion and steering of an airplane or racecar. Objective: The student will be able to fold a paper airplane that has added flaps, mount it in the wind tunnel, measure lift and drag with flaps up, down, and straight and compare performance with other students for similar configurations. k-3 http://www.seaworld.org/just-for-teachers/lsa/i-005/pdf/k-3.pdf whale, students, fold, gray whales, feet, drawing, inches, whale hats, tail, SeaWorld, baby, classroom, draw, flipper, fluke. Students will create a craft to explore the body shape, behavior, and natural history of gray whales. In this activity students make origami whale hats and role-play to explore what is would be like to be a whale. 2. Follow with directions on the next page to show students how to fold the paper into whale hats. 6. Open and tear the pointed end about three inches. 1. Before the activity, prepare the drawing area by marking off its boundaries with chalk marks or orange traffic cones. For young students, teachers may want to lightly outline the image or do a "connect-the-dots" number line. Abstract-- In our recent work, we have examined the effectiveness of delivering instructions for tasks through electronic media such as the WWW or electronic books. For example, animation has been used for many purposes from entertainment to education. Whereas in the entertainment area the appropriateness of using these different formats is often not discussed, the effectiveness of presentation formats in educational software has been debated. M. Abstract Art - Learn theory, technique and styles used to paint modern minimalist abstracts. Colored Pencil Drawing for Beginners - This class for beginners will teach students the basic techniques of colored pencil drawing. Acrylic Painting for Home Decorating -- Learn to create an image of your choice on canvas that mimics your décor. Using graphite, charcoal and paintbrushes, we will explore the use of gesture line, value, shape, volume, light and spatial illusion, to give students the basic skills and confidence to draw what they see. The class will then move into basic painting techniques, emphasizing painting surfaces, painting materials, elements of composition, color theory and the exploration of personal creativity. 03_math_text http://www.noguchi.org/education/files/03_math_text.pdf students, shapes, materials, Isamu Noguchi, balance, mobile, Noguchi Garden Museum, designers, string, scale models, artists, Noguchi, playground, equipment, stone. for IBM Headquarters [25] are examples of works in which Noguchi made use of stark geometric shapes. Have students identify different shapes around the classroom and outside in nature. (For example, windows are square, and a desk is a rectangular.) Tape can be used to attach strings to the objects, or students can thread a string through a tiny hole made with a ballpoint pen or sharp pencil. One student will have to hold the mobile by the center string, in order to test the weight of the forms. 7 The students will need to add tabs to each part of the chair in order to assemble it. new artists workshops, students, Buffalo, Grades, artists, fee, kites, history, ballet, architecture, techniques, materials, City Ballet, jazz, pop-up. Roszmann will demonstrate and guide students step by step through folding techniques, teaching simple methods through more advanced methods depending on the age and ability of those involved in the workshop. WS Artist Kyoko Rosz-mann explores the much loved literature form- the pop-up book. Kites will demonstrate interconnectedness as well as cause and effect of scientific inventions and applications in a historical context. lec1 algorithm, skills, computer science, course objectives, technology, folding, emphasize, origami problem, basics, practical computer skills, principles, artists, design, trisect, square. · how can you trisect a corner of a square piece of paper? "Without the aid of a computer, it would not possible to materialize quite so faithfully an image that previously existed only in the artist's mind. This may sound paradoxical, but the machine, which is thought to be cold and inhuman, can help to realize what is most subjective, unattainable, and profound in a human being." "Many artists over time have thought about movement, talked about flow. In our culture technology has evolved so that it's cheaper to build a rectangular holding. But if you figure out a way to make technology work for you, you can explore curved shapes and make them possible at competitive costs. A special display area for MOSAIC 2000 participants has been arranged. Refreshments will be served in the display room during the morning and afternoon breaks. The displays and refreshments will be located in room 109 of the Physics Astronomy Building, a building adjacent to the conference. The displays will be open throughout the conference. Space has been set aside for 10-minute un-refereed presentations on Tuesday and Wednesday after the paper sessions. Also biomimetic synthesis of helical morphologies of calcium carbonate, barium sulfate, and silica provides insight into morphogenesis of mineralized spiral forms in biology and ideas for new opportunities in materials science. Herein we describe the synthesis of hollow helicoids made of hexagonal mesoporous silica, a remarkable topology in the materials world. A supramolecular Origami theoretical model explains the creation and observed narrow distribution of mesoporous silica, hollow helicoid shapes. The pattern formation technique of mCP is modeled in close analogy to macroscopic relief printing. Alkane molecules with various anchor groups such as alkane-silanes have been employed to generate SAMs on oxide surfaces. takahiro-abs-00 thickness, SIGNotes Computer Graphics, paper folding, simulation, cad, polygons, Hokkaido University, Origami, IPSJ SIGNotes Computer, Japan, Information Processing Society, Members Service, remained problems, real paper, compare. In a simulation of interactive paper folding such as Origami, the thickness of the paper is one of very important parameters to be considered. How many times we can fold a piece of paper depends on its thickness. Analytical paper model is not suited for interactive applications of paper folding due to the computation complexity. The simulated paper is composed of polygons associated with virtual thickness, which is changed by the pressure on the polygon surface. We show some results of experiments which compare the behavior of our model and real paper, and discuss applicability and remained problems of our approach.
