For immediate release The Irish Wind Energy Association (IWEA) today labelled the ESB's attempted "abuse of position" in relation to the Government's programme for renewable energy as "short-sighted and irresponsible".
Under the Governments programme (AER V), the ESB will obtaining power at far less than polluting gas/peat power prices but is nevertheless also insisting on keeping the benefits of any future green credits or carbon emissions scheme that may come into force.
The difference could be as much as 2.5p per unit.
This is particularly outrageous at a time when the ESB is insisting that it requires an increase in the electricity price of 8% this year and a rise over the following few years to perhaps 20%.
