Hydro Tasmania has accepted the challenges introduced by the MRET and developed a major program of work to stretch the capability of existing assets to the economic maximum, and we believe that recent concerns raised about baselines are driven by our competitors' commercial positions rather than the baselines themselves.
The potential for upgrade and redevelopment of existing hydroelectric schemes is a function of the age of the plant, condition of the plant, and the success of the original design.

Renewable energy generator Pacific Hydro Limited [ASX: PHY] today announced the formation of a Joint Venture company with the Fiji Electrical Authority (FEA), the Fiji Government electricity company, to develop up to 100 megawatts (MW) of hydro and wind generation capacity in Fiji.
The new company, Sustainable Energy Limited, is aiming to save up to F$10 million per year in foreign exchange by replacing diesel imports for electricity generation with Fiji's indigenous renewable energy resource of wind and water.
"We will initially be developing a 6.5 MW hydroelectric station at Wainikasou and a 3.0 MW hydroelectric station at Vaturu.
The treatment works and pipeline are currently being upgraded by Public Works in Fiji to meet growing water demand.

Using solar PV as an example, this paper attempts to explain some of the factors that have prevented growth of a viable market for RETs.
The achievable levels of penetration for each of the market groups will depend on the marketing efforts of solar energy companies as well as incentives provided by government programs and financing schemes.

The Renewable Energy Generators of Australia Ltd (REGA) welcome the findings of the Senate Inquiry into the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Amendment Bill 2002.
REGA welcomes the Committee's observation that the 9500GWh target is no longer a genuine 2% target, and that this should in fact be 13,500GWh.
"REGA has consistently opposed calls from some sections of the industry to make wholesale policy changes to the Bill.
"Our members have also consistently maintained that the MRET statutory review process is the appropriate mechanism to consider whether the measure is delivering its objectives in an efficient and effective manner -- I am delighted for the sake of investment in the industry that the Senate Committee agrees," Mr Rae said.
