translation, language, literature, originals, English, poem, art, separate, Celan, poetry.
The most common complaint about translation---not translations specifically, but rather a confusion about them as a whole---is that they are always denigrations of the original, hack jobs performed just so some lazy lout confined to a single language can say he read such-and-such a book, and some other not-so-lazy lout can make a pile of cash.
Useless as texts in themselves, valuable only as vague approximations of plots or outlines of the originals, translations are the unwanted step-child of literature.
There is only one argument against those who believe translation is the work of the devil, or worse, a waste of time: You are absolutely right.

We extend our condolences to Pat Owen on the loss of her husband Jack.
Jack accompanied Pat to Rose Club meetings and events.
He was quite a handyman, and the lovely garden that he and Pat created has always been generously opened to the various gardening societies.
Check existing water lines if you have a drip or soaker hose watering system, consider installing one if you don t.
Thanks from the whole club go to Audrey Brisbane for 14 years of writing and publishing The Rose Hip.
The Rose Hip will be going out by Email to all members who provide an Email address.

rose, poem, life, Unlike, beauty, dreams, loving, mother, reasons, care.
Your poem "The Rose That Grew From Concrete" had a tremendous impact on my life.
It is hard to conceive a rose growing from concrete and creates questions in my mind.
Unlike the rose, I had the help of a loving mother and loving grandparents.
My hopes and dreams are within my reach, and like the rose, I am doing all that I can to find them.
In one of the most unlikely places, a thing of beauty is found.
The environment surrounding the rose did not care for it.
It was forced to develop its own goals and reasons for living.

The lasting effect of the annual Rose Garden Contest has been on the livability of our city and community.
ROSE PLANTING: Any piece of ground used for rose cultivation that would not otherwise constitute a rose garden.
The Royal Rosarians keep records of previous winners but also rely on the people's sense of fair play by not entering divisions or sections they have won previously that are restricted.
I hereby give permission to the Royal Rosarian Rose Garden Contest officials to enter my property for the purpose of judging my rose bushes.
In the event that I am a winner, I understand that my name and address may be released to the news media.

multiflora rose, Maine, plants, forest, conservation, Natural Areas Program, thickets, Cooperative Extension, herbicides, arching stems.
Multiflora rose is an aggressive colonizer of open unplowed land and is highly successful on forest edges.
This prolific seed producer can create extremely dense, impenetrable thickets that crowd out other vegetation and inhibit regrowth of native plants.
Associated vegetation of multiflora rose thickets is often limited to a few tree stems that have managed to overtop the rose before the thicket developed.
Dense stands of multiflora rose can slow down forest regeneration: the species can dominate a forest understory.
Its use was historically advocated by the U.S. Soil Conservation Service and by some state conservation departments.
Materials developed by the Maine Natural Areas Program for use by University of Maine Cooperative Extension.

life, rose, Persian, Saadi, friend, Gulistan, Persian poet, heart, tongue, fruits.
I was one night meditating on the time which had elapsed, repenting of the life I had squandered and perforating the stony mansion of my heart with adamantine tears.
Listen with all thy heart to the advice of Saadi.
Saadi (1184-1292CE) was a Persian poet from the city of Shiraz, in Persia.
Saadi was called by another Persian poet the nightingale [bulbul] of the groves of Shiraz.
After maturely considering these sentiments, I thought proper to sit down in the mansion of retirement to fold up the skirts of association, to wash my tablets of heedless sayings and no more to indulge in senseless prattle: To sit in a corner, like one with a cut tongue, deaf and dumb, Is better than a man who has no command over his tongue.

multiflora rose, control, management, Rosa Multiflora, land, Nature, species, Element Stewardship Abstract, plant, rose rosette disease.
Element Stewardship Abstracts (ESAs) are prepared to provide The Nature Conservancy's Stewardship staff and other land managers with current management-related information on those species and communities that are most important to protect, or most important to control.
This sharing of information will benefit all land managers by ensuring the availability of an abstract that contains up-to-date information on management techniques and knowledgeable contacts.
Schery (1977) reported that multiflora rose endures shade or sun and damp or dry environments, but does not grow well in standing water.
Both the phytophagous wasp Megastimus aculeatus and the Rose Rosette disease are potential biological control agents (see Management Procedures), but also represent a potential threat to ornamental roses.

plant, Rose, soil, root ball, pot, fertilizing, sun, potting, hole, inch.
This charming Compact Floribunda Rose was specially bred to produce long-lasting clear yellow flowers and abundant, glossy green leaves.
If you would like to move your Rose outdoors for the summer, wait until the danger of frost has passed in spring, then gradually acclimate your plant to conditions outside over a week's time.
Gently break up the sides of the root ball with your thumbs and tease apart any roots that are circling at the bottom.
Roses grow best where they receive at least 6 hours of direct sun per day (more sun means more blooms) and where the soil is well drained.

Edinburgh, common rock-rose, Hill, distribution, Scotland, species, Edinburgh Council, City, Historic Scotland, common rock-rose populations.
Common rock-rose is a low downy shrub with many branches growing from a thick woody stem.
Typically, common rock-rose grows in short well-drained chalk and limestone grasslands.
Common rock-rose is abundant in only one area of Edinburgh, the rocky outcrops in Holyrood Park.
There are four records of the species elsewhere in Edinburgh: a few plants are present on the Castle Rock, on Blackford Hill, Craiglockhart Hill, Mortonhall Golf Course, Corstorphine Hill and Craigbrae Farm, Dalmeny.
Extensive grazing by sheep in the past could have contributed to a reduction in rock-rose's distribution, while the loss of sites to development may also have had local impacts.

Overton R18, plants, flowering, cultivars, rose clover, Kondinin, Hykon, winter growth, cold tolerance, Texas.
Cultivars of rose clover (Trifolium hirtum All.) have been developed with a wide range of cold tolerance, winter growth and flowering date combinations.
However, no rose clover cultivars are available with high rates of winter growth and a late April flowering date when grown in northeast Texas.
Plants from segregating F2 families of rose clover were evaluated for plant size in February and March and flowering date was recorded.
Hykon and Kondinin are Australian cultivars and both have very little winter dormancy or cold tolerance.
Overton R18 was developed at Overton and selected for a high level of cold tolerance.
