A few native rose species, and many introduced examples, are present on Prince Edward Island.
Many birds and mammals feed on the fruit (hips) of this plant, and its pollen and nectar are used by many insects.
Rose hips can be used to produce a jelly which has a wonderful flavour and is very high in vitamin C. Tea can be made from dried fruit and/or leaves.
This thorny shrub grows in various habitats from open woodland to fields, salt marshes, wetland edges, hedgerows, and back dunes.
Outdoor Etiquette - Few forest boundaries are well marked and few landowners regularly inspect their woodlands.
Figure 2 Wild roses are found Cultivation - These species can be cultivated.

Macartney rose, herbicide, control, treatment, kg/ha, effectiveness, picloram, Texas, dicamba, plants.
Picloram combined with 2,4,5-T (1:l) at 0.56 or 1.12 kg/ha was the most effective of several herbicides and herbicide combinations applied in the fall for control of Macartney rose.
Aerial application of the 2,4,5-Tfpicloram combination at 1.12 kg/ha reduced Macartney rose canopies on Texas Coastal Prairie rangeland by 70 to 80% after a year.
From early research (McCully et al., 1959), 2,4-D [(2,4dichlorophenoxy) acetic acid] was developed as the primary herbicide treatment for Macartney rose control.
The ester formulation is also used in the early fall, from early September to mid-October, when growing conditions are conducive to herbicide effectiveness.
Herbicides and herbicide combinations evaluated at 1 .12 kg/ha for Macartney rose control near Benchley were: 2,4-D, 2,4-D combined with picloram (4-amino-2,3,6-trichloro-picolonic acid) or dicamba (3,6-dichloro-o-anisic acid); 2,4,5-T [(2,4,5trichlorophenoxy) acetic acid] and silvex [(2,4,5trichlorophenoxy) propionic acid] each alone or combined with picloram or dicamba; and dicamba combined with picloram.

City Councilwoman Rose Ferlita said she would help neighborhoods with code enforcement and clean-up problems, so members of the Sulphur Springs Action League called her and took her for a ride around the area.
Code enforcement workers who were monitoring the dumpsters saw how many things were going and put in a call for dumpster pickup and extra dumpsters.
By the end of Sunday, 32 tons of trash had been disposed of (12 large dumpsters plus a pile of trash the length of the vacant lot about 8 feet high) and the project was labeled a success with maximum results and minimum effort.

Roses, roots, Tree Roses, trunk, stock, suckers, stakes, trench, diagram, dig.
Tree Roses are one of the most beautiful and unique Roses in the landscape.
To overwinter your Tree Rose, you must dig a trench to one side of the Rose.
Next, dig up one side of the roots (the side opposite the trench) so you can lay the Rose down into the trench (see diagram on back).
Hold trunk in place by crossing two stakes over the top of the trunk (see diagram on back).
Pruning your Tree Roses is slightly different in the fact that you need to prune suckers from the root stock and suckers from the stem or trunk stock (see diagram on back).
