Many of the problems students encounter when searching the internet could be avoided if appropriate search techniques are employed. The more powerful search engines, like Google and Yahoo!, are quite versatile. Before you begin using a search engine, it is a good idea to write down the keywords and phrases for which you are seeking information. Example: if you wanted information on jewelry but wanted to exclude silver jewelry, you could type "jewelry NOT silver." The search will not yield documents on only "silver" or only on "platinum." In this poster we analyze the dependency problem of the user interface with the information retrieval software. This is useful when the user wants to select an interface or visualization metaphor that could not always be available for different information retrieval systems or search engines. Given this scenario the user is not allowed to choose a user interface and a search engine independently. We defined a language called IVL (Information Visualization Language) that can be used as the intermediate representation and therefore allows searchers and visualizers to interchange data.
