Review: Why is Music IR Research Worthwhile? -- Especially #4 via routing, not conventional IR! I am of course a member of the / Church of England.* GRET. No. Relative, not absolute, pitch is important Are pitch intervals like words? Yet almost all music-IR work to date has done only melodic pitch matching---and with a fair amount of success. Will melodic pitch alone be adequate for large databases and complex music? These problems are all common now How good are prospects for solving them? -- Funding agencies and corporations are finally spending $$ -- Research community is working on indexing, polyphony, etc.

1. Opening and welcome: Ms Bronwyn Halliday, Chair, Kinetica Annual Users' Meeting, and Director, State Library of South Australia. Mr Hill began by saying that libraries are the lynchpin in the ongoing development and application of the national information and knowledge infrastructure, and in the benefits it delivers in terms of research and scholarship, the clever country, lifelong education, civic debate and economic growth. Kinetica will need to address the issues of authority workflows, how authorities could be contributed to the NBD and what services should be provided to support authority work. The records in the RAP file are derived from the NBD, and are made available to help libraries select material for collection development.

The growth of the Internet has put pressure on traditional intellectual property protections such as copyright and patent. The conventional view that tighter intellectual property protections always improve innovation incentives is based on a limited economic model that often is inappropriate in such highly interactive and dynamic environments. Second, many forms of "content" are really offered in a package with software, that is, an integral part of the content delivery is the software that makes delivery possible. This analysis suggests that policy needs to address not only the general (and somewhat amorphous) dissemination of ideas, but also the specific practice of imitating to improve, especially in dynamic environments. Note: The table plots software patents by grant date, not application date.

It may be represented as digital audio, (digitized) analog audio (for example from old scratchy record or hissy tape collections), conventional music notation in symbolic/computer-readable format, conventional music notation as scanned images (sheet music), and event-level music such as MIDI, to name a few. Depending on the source of the piece, there might be di erent types of errors in the nal representation: users humming a piece will produce one type of error, automated transcriptions of audio could produce another type of error, and automated transcriptions of digitized sheet music could produce yet another type of error. Dovey has recently proposed a WebServices-related framework for distributed MIR collaboration and evaluation: MusicGrid [2].

In an effort to maintain a high degree of fairness and dignity in the process by which films eligible for Academy Awards® are promoted to the Academy membership, the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has developed a set of regulations for use by film studios, producers, distributors, marketers and others (collectively referred to below as "film companies") engaged in the annual rite commonly referred to as "campaigning." Without a "song share agreement" a publisher or the courts may infer equal contributions and the potential for dispute between contributors (e.g. if the song writing partnership splits up) is greatly increased. If one of your songs comes out on record and you do not have a music publisher then your name should appear under the title of the song on the record label and underneath this should be the words 'Copyright Control' or, if you are a member, 'MCPS'. By joining the following collecting societies, unpublished composers and song writers can receive fees and royalties due to them from the use of their works.

This project entails a fully functional interface between a standard Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) device and a personal computer, including a software application for processing and display of MIDI data. The microcontroller receives MIDI data through a standard MIDI cable, filters and encodes the data, then sends packets to the PC via a serial UART connection. The protocol for interaction with a MIDI device is straightforward. MIDI devices interact via "MIDI messages" which are multiple-byte packets conveying information about musical events. Because user actions such as menu clicks are not interrupt driven in MFC, it is necessary that two separate threads of execution exist, one thread for polling the serial port and another for accepting user input. Another drawback arises due to the conservative design of the software UART.
