Southern Style Tai Chi, Gung Fu Martial Arts

This ancient form of deep stretching exercise helps you cultivate balance, strength, flexibility, and improve concentration and body alignment.

Tai chi is an ancient Chi nese martial art that is practised throughout the world as an effective exercise for health.

The classes require no special equipment or clothing and once you learn the exercises you can practice them for the rest of your life.

Roll the body weight to the right foot and open left foot to the side to one shoulder width.

This course is designed to provide the student with the skills necessary to instruct the martial art of Tai Chi.

His own practice and study, along with his eagerness to share his knowledge, makes him one of the most exciting and respected teachers in martial arts today.

The partnership between your local seniors and community centres results in a wide range of programs and services designed to provide the older adult - 50 +, retired or semi retired with opportunities to get involved!

-it's important to find out what you can do to decrease your risk and improve your general health and mobility.

Though designed for autonomous seniors who are sufficiently concerned about their balance to attend thrice weekly sessions, the program, despite this intensity, still has its playful side.

Recovering from the fracture should be your first priority. Many people are unaware of the link between a broken bone and osteoporosis. Research has shown that hip protectors can decrease the risk of hip fracture among individuals at high risk for falls. The NIH Osteoporosis and Related Bone Diseases ~ National Resource Center is supported by the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases with contributions from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, NIH Office of Research on Women's Health, DHHS Office on Women's Health, and National Institute on Aging.

Americans have overwhelmingly embraced complementary and alternative therapies. Although the primary purpose of this study was to refine a questionnaire on complementary and alternative therapy use by older adults, the findings of this pilot study identified knowledge and use of complementary and alternative therapies in a convenience sample of 60 older adults, 54 to 92 years of age from three ethnically diverse senior centers. There were no significant differences in number of therapies used among the three sites. King et al24 and Pettigrew and King25 found prayer to be the most frequently used therapy in their study of nurses, and Dunn and Horgas26 reported that 84% of older adults used prayer as an alternative therapy for coping with stress.

Short-term low-dose corticosteroids vs placebo and nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs in rheumatoid arthritis (Updated Cochrane Review). Despite some positive findings, this meta-analysis lacked data on how LLLT effectiveness is affected by four important factors: wavelength, treatment duration of LLLT, dosage and site of application over nerves instead of joints. "Worldviews: Maya Ceramics from the Palmer Collection" is on display at the Museum of Anthropology through January 31. Curated by MOA Director Stephen L. Whittington, the exhibit contains 35 ceramic objects, nine jade objects and one stone object---some of them internationally known and featured in recent books on the Maya. I will soon begin the process of creating an advisory board, whose members I envision will act as advisors for creating a strategic plan and as advocates and ambassadors for the Museum. Are you or your spouse employed by a matching gift company? Director Stephen Whittington presented a public lecture titled "At the entrance to Xibalbá: illness, trauma, and death among the Maya" at the Mint Museum of Art in Charlotte on October 9.

Background: This study sought to describe the pattern of complementary/alternative medicine (CAM) use among a group of patients with advanced breast cancer, to examine the main reasons for their CAM use, to identify patient's information sources and their communication pattern with their physicians. The most commonly cited primary reason for CAM use was to boost the immune system, the second, to treat cancer; however these reasons varied depending on specific CAM therapy. First, we found that the vast majority (73%) of our patients use CAM, a finding in line with previous estimates [7,8]. Unlike previous studies [10--12], we found that most patients using ingested CAM products (herbs, special diets, supplements, and folk remedies) discussed this use with their medical providers.

Which one of these individuals would best reacquire their original skill following a softtissue injury resulting in some period of disuse? Little activation is shown anteriorly for both right hand and left hand movements however there is still activation in primary motor areas. Activation area differences associated with ideation may be an important consideration for directing behavioural recovery.
