Tai chi is an ancient Chi nese martial art that is practised throughout the world as an effective exercise for health.

Tai_Chi

Tai Chi, as it is practiced in the west today, is a moving form of yoga and meditation combined. There are a number of so-called forms (sometimes also called "sets") which consist of a sequence of movements. Many of these movements are originally derived from the martial arts, although the way they are performed in Tai Chi is slowly, softly, and gracefully, with smooth and even transitions between them. One of the aims of Tai Chi is to foster the circulation of this "chi" within the body. Another aim of Tai Chi is to foster a calm and tranquil mind. The spark that initiated the design of Tai Chi came from a piece of experimental lettering I had done in 1999. Tai Chi is a display face that could be generalized as a textured calligraphic script. What distinguishes it from other scripts can be found in its movement. Individual characters stand poised in a vertical zen like balance while displaying an inner rhythm that makes them appear to dance along the line. Rich in texture and variation, Tai Chi works very well at medium and large point sizes. The font contains several alternate letters that help maintain a handlettered look. Tai Chi can be used in all uppercase settings as well.

The OH&S unit offers free programmes throughout the year to promote health and wellbeing at work. Eight Feldenkrais lessons are provided in each semester and there are usually four Sections of Tai Chi each term, each Section offering nine lessons.
