TDA Systems provides two example scripts to be used for running HSpice simulations on a remote unix machine as part of IConnect's integrated simulator interface.
Separate scripts are available for Windows NT/2000 and Windows 95/98.
To use the Windows 95/98 script, it may be necessary to install third-party software.
It should be noted that IConnect can read the Unix HSpice simulation output directly, so returned data should not be translated from unix to DOS format.
However, it is necessary to translate (done automatically by rcp) the netlist from DOS format to unix before running hspice on the unix machine.

pico The Pico screen editor accompanies the Pine electronic mail program that is available on the CIS UNIX Timesharing Services, as well as most UNIX-based workstations in the CIS computing labs.
The Pico editor's simplicity is one of its most attractive features for the novice user.
The Pico screen display has a specific format.
This line is used to display information and to prompt instructions.
For example, if you invoke a keystroke commands that results in a prompt on line22, but then hit the "Cancel" keystroke command, the prompt will remain.
Pico will insert text at the position in the file that the cursor indicates.
overview
This whitepaper describes the Common UNIX Printing SystemTM ("CUPSTM"), a portable and extensible printing system for UNIX®.
These printing systems were designed in the 70's for printing text to line printers; vendors have since added varying levels of support for other types of printers.
Besides handling printer requests via IPP POST requests, the scheduler also acts as a full-featured web server for documentation, status monitoring, and administration.
The scheduler also manages a list of available printers on the LAN and dispatches print jobs as needed using the appropriate filters and backends.

4gl
There are many database systems available for UNIX.
Object-oriented languages are becoming common, and languages explicitly supporting multiple tasks and inter-task communication are also gaining popularity.
The critical feature of the shell which puts it in the class of 4GL's is the UNIX pipe, which allows a shell to start a sequence of processes, each reading its input from its predecessor process, and writing its output to a successor process.
For the shell, the UNIX pipe provides the data streams, and the hundreds of standard UNIX utilities provide the core set of operators.
Here's the shell script that produces this report.

Developed through the X/Open consensus process the Single UNIX Specification Version 2 and the UNIX 98 Product Standards introduce the next generation of 64-bit enabled UNIX system architectures, and reinforce the UNIX trade mark as the industry recognized mark for the leading-edge operating environment.
This delivers to the market the benefits of a single standard operating system, namely application and information portability, scalability, flexibility and freedom of choice for customers.
The Realtime extensions are an optional feature group, allowing procurement of X/Open realtime systems with predictable, bounded behavior.
VSTH - The industry standard Threads test suite: a standalone test suite fully covering POSIX 1003.1c and the additional X/Open threads (Aspen) requirements.

In order to recoup used file space, you may use the "ls -l" command at the Panther prompt to display a long list of filenames under your default home directory.
The option "x" is used to grant execute permission.
The find command recursively descends the directory hierarchy for each path seeking files that match a Boolean expression written in the primaries given below.
The most commonly used program for compressing large file is named COMPRESS.
The most commonly used program to bundle a group of files into a single package is a program named TAR.

This document describes the use of the Unix system at Kansas State University.
It is mainly concerned with those features that are unique to the KSU implementation, but it also contains some generic information on the use of the Unix operating system.
This document is kept online and can be viewed from the system by simply entering the command "ksu".
Use of the workstations can be greatly enhanced by running a window system while at the console.
When I issue any command, for example LOGOUT, Unix gives the reply "ccommand not found".
The best way out is to log in from another terminal and kill the processes running on the original terminal.
Later sections describe programming and individual commands.

Our Internet server runs an operating system (O/S) called UNIX.
This means you must tell the system exactly what you want it to do by typing in comands at a command prompt.
This helpsheet assumes that you know how to log into sun, Lewis & Clark's Internet server.
The information here will tell you who to contact with questions, how to access some of the resources available to you, or how to get online help.
The "ls" command allows you to look at a list of of files and directories in your account.
Here is a partial list of resources available to you (Fig.5): If you are interested in using any of these resources, you may type %help [resource name] for online help or type %[resource name]to start the program.

filecompression
compression, archives, command, Unix, tar, gzip, extension, gunzip, renames, uncompress, common, wildcards.
This handout is intended to help you manage your files and disk space on Unix by providing an introduction to methods of compressing and archiving files to more effectively use the disk space available on your Unix account.
On Unix systems, the most common form of compression is known simply as compress and is recognizable by its .Z file extension.
Compressed files are created with the command compress and are extracted with the uncompress command.
If you do not use this option, your command is carried out with out any visual output.
You may use gzip and gunzip to compress and decompress files.
The tar command is used to archive files on Unix systems.

samba, Unix, server, install, compiling, script, binaries, network, configuration file, command, daemons, smbd.
Now that you know what Samba can do for you and your users, it's time to get your own network set up.
Unless you specifically want an older version of the Samba server or are going to install a binary distribution, download the latest source distribution from the closest mirror site.
Before you can start up Samba, however, you need to create a configuration file for it.
To test the server software, though, we'll use the following file.
The advantage of this scheme is that you can have a large number of daemons ready to answer queries, but they don't all have to be running.
